It is necessary to have some facility with algebraic notation and manipulation to be able to use the volume intelligently. The problems are presented from the theoretical point of view, without such practical examples as would be helpful for those not acquainted with mathematics. The mathematical justification for the techniques is given. As a somewhat advanced treatment of the design and analysis of experiments, this volume will be interesting and helpful for many who approach statistics theoretically as well as practically. With emphasis on the \"why,\" and with description given broadly, the author relates the subject matter to the general theory of statistics and to the general problem of experimental inference. Complex network measures of brain connectivity: uses and interpretations.

This paper presents a novel approach, namely SSVS, to improve the secondary structure prediction of proteins. In this work, a Radial Basis Function Neural Network is trained to combine different answers found by different secondary structure prediction techniques to produce superior answers. SSVS is tested with three of the well-known benchmarks in this field. The results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed technique even in the case of formidable sequences.

A voting scheme to improve the secondary structure prediction

This work reviews a number of algorithms to solve the location management problem in mobile networks for both static and dynamic scenarios. In the static mode, results of five algorithms are used to highlight the pros and cons for each algorithm. These results provide new insight into the mobility management problem that can influence the design of future wireless networks. In the dynamic mode in which mobile users' past movement patterns are used in making future paging decisions by the network, the performance of an online location management algorithm is examined under different deployment setups. Performance results of this algorithm show its advantages over the currently implemented and/or proposed static location management systems (including GSM).

On the performance of static and dynamic location management strategies in mobile computing

A national research Cloud is being created as part of the National eResearch Collaboration Tools and Resources (NeCTAR) project, to supply a cost-effective computational infrastructure to Australian scholars. Since it is hard to comprehensively understand the available Cloud resources through the open indicators, we decided to empirically investigate the infrastructural performance of the NeCTAR Research Cloud. In particular, our current evaluation work shows that the communication data throughput vary significantly within and between the five existing Cloud nodes. Although operated as one Cloud system, the NeCTAR Research Cloud might have employed heterogeneous network equipment and/or technologies. As the NeCTAR project is still ongoing, the one-off evaluation results could be quickly out of date, and the evaluation implementations should be frequently repeated or replicated for monitoring or consuming the Cloud services. Thus, unlike the existing evaluation studies that mainly focused on the evaluation results or tools, we emphasize the complete procedure and backend logic of evaluation implementations. Practically, as demonstrated in this paper, the procedure and logic can be recorded into Cloud Evaluation Experiment Methodology-based evaluation templates to facilitate repeatable and comparable Cloud services evaluation.

A Brief Overview of Grid Activities for Bioinformatics and Health Applications

The identification of essential proteins is theoretically and practically important as (1) it is essential to understand the minimal surviving requirements for cellular lives, and (2) it provides fundamental for development of drug. As conducting experimental studies to identify essential proteins are both time and resource consuming, here we present a computational approach in predicting them based on network topology properties from protein-protein interaction networks of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The proposed method, namely EP3NN (Essential Proteins Prediction using Probabilistic Neural Network) employed a machine learning algorithm called Probabilistic Neural Network as a classifier to identify essential proteins of the organism of interest; it uses degree centrality, closeness centrality, local assortativity and local clustering coefficient of each protein in the network for such predictions.
