Stress revisited: a critical evaluation of the stress concept
Jaap M. Koolhaas,Alessandro Bartolomucci,Bauke Buwalda,S.F. de Boer,Gabriele Flügge,S.M. Korte,Peter Meerlo,Robert Murison,Berend Olivier,Paola Palanza,Gal Richter-Levin,Andrea Sgoifo,Thierry Steimer,Oliver Stiedl,G. van Dijk,Markus Wöhr,Eberhard Fuchs +16 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that the term 'stress' should be restricted to conditions where an environmental demand exceeds the natural regulatory capacity of an organism, in particular situations that include unpredictability and uncontrollability.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stress-induced changes in cerebral metabolites, hippocampal volume, and cell proliferation are prevented by antidepressant treatment with tianeptine
Boldizsár Czéh,Thomas Michaelis,Takashi Watanabe,Jens Frahm,G. de Biurrun,M. van Kampen,Alessandro Bartolomucci,Eberhard Fuchs +7 more
TL;DR: The effect of tianeptine, a modified tricyclic antidepressant, in the chronic psychosocial stress model of adult male tree shrews, a model with high validity for research on the pathophysiology of major depression, is investigated.

Social determinants of health and survival in humans and other animals
Noah Snyder-Mackler,Joseph R. Burger,Lauren Gaydosh,Daniel W. Belsky,Grace A. Noppert,Fernando A. Campos,Fernando A. Campos,Alessandro Bartolomucci,Yang Claire Yang,Allison E. Aiello,Angela M. O'Rand,Kathleen Mullan Harris,Carol A. Shively,Susan C. Alberts,Jenny Tung +14 more
TL;DR: These findings suggest that some aspects of the social determinants of health—especially those that can be modeled through studies of direct social interaction in nonhuman animals—have deep evolutionary roots and present new opportunities for studying the emergence of social disparities in health and mortality risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Extended Granin Family: Structure, Function, and Biomedical Implications
Alessandro Bartolomucci,Roberta Possenti,Sushil K. Mahata,Reiner Fischer-Colbrie,Y. Peng Loh,Stephen R.J. Salton +5 more
TL;DR: The structure and function of granins and granin-derived peptides and expansive new genetic evidence are reviewed, including recent single-nucleotide polymorphism mapping, genomic sequence comparisons, and analysis of transgenic and knockout mice, which together support an important and evolutionarily conserved role for these proteins in large dense-core vesicle biogenesis and regulated secretion.
