Emergence of network features from multiplexity
Alessio Cardillo,Jesús Gómez-Gardeñes,Massimiliano Zanin,Massimiliano Zanin,Miguel Romance,Miguel Romance,David Papo,Francisco del Pozo,Stefano Boccaletti +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the structural properties of an intrinsically multilayered real network, the European Air Transportation Multiplex Network in which each commercial airline defines a network layer, are analyzed. And the topology of each layer affects the emergence of structural properties in the aggregate network.
Journal ArticleDOI
Street centrality and densities of retail and services in Bologna, Italy
Sergio Porta,Vito Latora,Fahui Wang,Emanuele Strano,Alessio Cardillo,Salvatore Scellato,Valentino Iacoviello,Roberto Messora +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the relationship between street centrality and densities of commercial and service activities in the city of Bologna, northern Italy and found that the distribution of these activities correlates highly with the global betweenness of the street network, and also, to a slightly lesser extent, with global closeness.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structural properties of planar graphs of urban street patterns.
TL;DR: This work studies the basic properties of twenty 1-square-mile samples of street patterns of different world cities and finds that cities of the same class, e.g., grid-iron or medieval, exhibit roughly similar properties.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modeling the multi-layer nature of the European Air Transport Network: Resilience and passengers re-scheduling under random failures
Alessio Cardillo,Massimiliano Zanin,Massimiliano Zanin,Jesús Gómez-Gardeñes,Miguel Romance,Miguel Romance,Alejandro J. García del Amo,Alejandro J. García del Amo,Stefano Boccaletti +8 more
TL;DR: A comparison between the single-plex approach and the corresponding multiplex one is presented illustrating that the multiplexity strongly affects the robustness of the European Air Network.
Journal ArticleDOI
Urban Street Networks, a Comparative Analysis of Ten European Cities
Emanuele Strano,Matheus P. Viana,Luciano da Fontoura Costa,Alessio Cardillo,Sergio Porta,Vito Latora +5 more
TL;DR: It is found that cities share structural similarities due to their quasiplanarity but that there are also several distinctive geometrical properties.
