Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluating the Effects of White Matter Multiple Sclerosis Lesions on the Volume Estimation of 6 Brain Tissue Segmentation Methods
Sergi Valverde,Arnau Oliver,Yago Diez,Mariano Cabezas,Joan C. Vilanova,Lluís Ramió-Torrentà,Alex Rovira,Xavier Lladó +7 more
TL;DR: Although lesions were removed after segmentation to avoid their impact on tissue segmentation, the methods still overestimated GM tissue in most cases, especially relevant because on images with high lesion load, this bias will most likely distort actual tissue atrophy measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optical coherence tomography measures correlate with brain and spinal cord atrophy and multiple sclerosis disease-related disability.
Angela Vidal-Jordana,Deborah Pareto,Sergio Cabello,Manel Alberich,Jordi Río,Mar Tintoré,Cristina Auger,Xavier Montalban,Alex Rovira,Jaume Sastre-Garriga +9 more
TL;DR: The aim of the study was to investigate the association between OCT and brain volume and spinal cord area parameters in patients with relapsing MS and to assess their independent associations with disability.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of Early Progression Independent of Relapse Activity With Long-term Disability After a First Demyelinating Event in Multiple Sclerosis
Carmen Tur,Pere Carbonell-Mirabent,Alvaro Cobo-Calvo,Susana Otero-Romero,Georgina Arrambide,Luciana Midaglia,Joaquín Castilló,Angela Vidal-Jordana,Breogán Rodríguez-Acevedo,Ana Zabalza,Ingrid Galán,Carlos Nos,Annalaura Salerno,Cristina Auger,Deborah Pareto,Manuel Comabella,Jordi Río,Jaume Sastre-Garriga,Alex Rovira,Mar Tintoré,Xavier Montalban +20 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigated the long-term outcomes of patients who developed progression independent of relapse activity after a first demyelinating event in multiple sclerosis, using a cohort study.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serial proton spectroscopy, magnetization transfer ratio and T 2 relaxation in pseudotumoral demyelinating lesions.
TL;DR: The results suggest that pseudotumoral, cyst‐like, ring‐enhancing lesions may be characterized by an accumulation of oedema in the extracellular space with an almost complete absence of cells in MS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cerebrovascular disease burden in late-onset non-lesional focal epilepsy.
Laura Abraira,Laura Ludovica Gramegna,Manuel Quintana,Estevo Santamarina,Javier Salas-Puig,Silvana Sarria,Alex Rovira,Manuel Toledo +7 more
TL;DR: Findings suggest that the etiology of LOE is not exclusively related to cerebrovascular disease, and hippocampal atrophy may contribute to the origin of the seizures.
