Low bend loss waveguides enable compact, efficient 3D photonic chips
Alexander Arriola,Simon Gross,Nemanja Jovanovic,Ned Charles,Peter G. Tuthill,Santiago M. Olaizola,Alexander Fuerbach,Michael J. Withford +7 more
TL;DR: This procedure was used to fabricate an efficient 3D, photonic device known as a "pupil-remapper" with negligible bend losses for the first time, and will also allow for complex chips, based on 10's - 100's of waveguides to be realized in a compact foot print with short fabrication times.
Journal ArticleDOI
Towards low-loss lightwave circuits for non-classical optics at 800 and 1,550 nm
Thomas Meany,Simon Gross,Nemanja Jovanovic,Alexander Arriola,Michael J. Steel,Michael J. Withford +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a comparative study of the processing windows which produce low-loss waveguides in two glasses, Schott AF-45 and Corning Eagle-2000.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ultrafast laser inscription of mid-IR directional couplers for stellar interferometry
TL;DR: The results clearly demonstrate that ultrafast laser inscription can be used to fabricate high-quality evanescent field couplers for future applications in astronomical interferometry.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mid-infrared astrophotonics: study of ultrafast laser induced index change in compatible materials
Alexander Arriola,Simon Gross,Martin Ams,Thomas Gretzinger,D. Le Coq,Rongping Wang,Heike Ebendorff-Heidepriem,Jas S. Sanghera,Shyam S. Bayya,Leslie Brandon Shaw,Michael J. Ireland,Peter G. Tuthill,Michael J. Withford +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a study of mid-infrared transparent materials that are compatible with the ultrafast laser inscription technique is presented, which will inform the development of midinfrared photonic devices for future exoplanetary discovery.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Precision single mode fibre integral field spectroscopy with the RHEA spectrograph
Adam D. Rains,Michael J. Ireland,Nemanja Jovanovic,Tobias Feger,Joao Bento,Christian Schwab,David W. Coutts,Olivier Guyon,Alexander Arriola,Simon Gross +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method for the detection of a single photon in a set of images of the Earth's magnetic field using the AU-120103751 data set.
