Journal ArticleDOI
Micro-CT characterization of variability in 3D textile architecture
Frederik Desplentere,Stepan Vladimirovitch Lomov,D.L Woerdeman,Ignace Verpoest,Martine Wevers,Alexander E. Bogdanovich +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors explore the potential of X-ray micro-computed tomography (Xray micro CT) to characterize the micro-structural variation of four different 3D warp-interlaced fabrics.
Journal ArticleDOI
A comparative study of tensile properties of non-crimp 3D orthogonal weave and multi-layer plain weave E-glass composites. Part 1: Materials, methods and principal results
Stepan Vladimirovitch Lomov,Alexander E. Bogdanovich,Dmitry Ivanov,Dmitri Mungalov,Mehmet Karahan,Ignace Verpoest +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, a comparison of in-plane tensile properties of two single-ply non-crimp 3D orthogonal weave E-glass fiber composites on one side and a laminate reinforced with four plies of plain weave Eglass fabric on the other is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
A comparative study of tensile properties of non-crimp 3D orthogonal weave and multi-layer plain weave E-glass composites. Part 2: Comprehensive experimental results
Dmitry Ivanov,Stepan Vladimirovitch Lomov,Alexander E. Bogdanovich,Mehmet Karahan,Ignace Verpoest +4 more
TL;DR: In this article, a comparative experimental study of 2D and 3D woven glass/epoxy composites under in-plane tensile loading is presented, where the results demonstrate that the non-crimp 3D orthogonal woven composites have significantly higher inplane strengths, failure strains and damage initiation thresholds than their 2D woven laminated counterpart.
Journal ArticleDOI
Shock loading response of sandwich panels with 3-D woven E-glass composite skins and stitched foam core
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of core stitching density on the transient response of three simply supported sandwich panels loaded in a shock tube is experimentally studied in a novel type of sandwich material, TRANSONITE made by pultrusion of 3-D woven 3WEAVE E-glass fiber composites skin preforms integrally stitched to polyisocyanurate TRYMER TM 200L foam core.
Journal ArticleDOI
Internal geometry evaluation of non-crimp 3D orthogonal woven carbon fabric composite
Mehmet Karahan,Mehmet Karahan,Stepan Vladimirovitch Lomov,Alexander E. Bogdanovich,Dmitri Mungalov,Ignaas Verpoest +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the internal geometry of a carbon fiber non-crimp 3D orthogonal woven composite is presented, including: waviness of yarns, cross sections of the yarn, dimensions of yarn cross sections, and local fiber volume fraction.
