Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of cardiorespiratory fitness and cerebral blood flow on cognitive outcomes in older women.

TL;DR: This study identified strong associations between physical fitness, vascular function and cognition, and provides new understanding regarding the mechanisms by which fitness positively impacts cognition with aging.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chloroplast DNA Phylogenetic Affinities of Newly Described Species in Glycine (Leguminosae: Phaseoleae)

TL;DR: It is suggested that habitual amphicarpy has developed independently in G. falcata and G. albicans, and within this major clade none of the new species shared their closest affinities with chloroplast DNAs of G. Falcon, but rather with plastomes of a group of five species forming a separate clade within the A genome.
Journal ArticleDOI

Relationship between oxidative stress and HIF-1 alpha mRNA during sustained hypoxia in humans.

TL;DR: This study in humans corroborates the previous in vitro findings demonstrating that ROS is involved in HIF-1 alpha transcription and suggests that hypoxia induces oxidative stress via an overgeneration of reactive oxygen species (ROS).
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of Acetazolamide on Ventilatory, Cerebrovascular, and Pulmonary Vascular Responses to Hypoxia

TL;DR: Acetazolamide has complex effects on ventilation, PVR, and CBF that converge to optimize brain oxygenation and may be a valuable means to prevent/treat high-altitude pulmonary edema.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multiple origins and nrDNA internal transcribed spacer homeologue evolution in the Glycine tomentella (Leguminosae) allopolyploid complex.

TL;DR: Direct sequencing is used to isolate and characterize nrDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) homeologues from multiple accessions of six different races in the Glycine tomentella allopolyploid complex and indicates there are significant biases in copy number toward one homeologue, possibly resulting from interlocus concerted evolution.
