Journal ArticleDOI
Antidiarrheal activity of cashew GUM, a complex heteropolysaccharide extracted from exudate of Anacardium occidentale L. in rodents.
Thiago S.L. Araújo,Douglas S. Costa,Nayara A. Sousa,Luan Kelves Miranda de Souza,Simone de Araújo,Ana Patrícia de Oliveira,Francisca Beatriz M. Sousa,Durcilene Alves da Silva,André Luiz dos Reis Barbosa,José Roberto S. A. Leite,Jand Venes R. Medeiros +10 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that a complex heteropolysaccharide extracted from the exudate of A. occidentale L. has antidiarrheal activity in acute, inflammatory, and secretory diarrhea models, which could justify its traditional use in the treatment of diarrhea in northeast Brazil.
Journal ArticleDOI
Premises among SARS-CoV-2, dysbiosis and diarrhea: Walking through the ACE2/mTOR/autophagy route
Ana Patrícia de Oliveira,André Luis Fernandes Lopes,Gabriella Pacheco,Isabela Ribeiro de Sá Guimarães Nolêto,Lucas A.D. Nicolau,Jand Venes R. Medeiros,Jand Venes R. Medeiros +6 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that the new coronavirus causes a change in the intestinal microbiota, which culminates in a diarrheal process through the ACE2/mTOR/autophagy pathway into enterocytes, supported by premises that unregulated intestinal microbiota increases the susceptibility to other diseases and extra-intestinal manifestations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 Protects against Gastric Damage Induced by Ethanol Administration in Mice: Role of TRPV1/Substance P Axis
Ana Patrícia de Oliveira,Luan Kelves Miranda de Souza,Thiago S.L. Araújo,Simone de Araújo,Kerolayne M. Nogueira,Francisca Beatriz M. Sousa,Renan O. Silva,Dvison M. Pacífico,Conceição da Silva Martins,Gerly Anne de Castro Brito,Marcellus H.L.P. Souza,Jand Venes R. Medeiros +11 more
TL;DR: DSM exhibited gastroprotective activity through decreased expression of TRPV1 receptor and decreasing SP levels, with a consequent reduction of oxidative stress.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of anti-inflammatory potential of aqueous extract and polysaccharide fraction of Thuja occidentalis Linn. in mice.
Irismara S. Silva,Lucas A.D. Nicolau,Francisca Beatriz M. Sousa,Simone de Araújo,Ana Patrícia de Oliveira,Thiago S.L. Araújo,Luan Kelves Miranda de Souza,Conceição da Silva Martins,Pedro Everson Alexandre de Aquino,Lucas de Lima Carvalho,Renan O. Silva,Pedro José Rolim-Neto,Jand Venes R. Medeiros,Jand Venes R. Medeiros +13 more
TL;DR: Results show that the AE and PLS reduced the inflammatory response by inhibiting vascular and cellular events, inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokine production, and reducing oxidative stress.
Journal ArticleDOI
AMPK activation promotes gastroprotection through mutual interaction with the gaseous mediators H2S, NO, and CO.
Simone de Araújo,Ana Patrícia de Oliveira,Francisca Beatriz M. Sousa,Luan Kelves Miranda de Souza,Gabriella Pacheco,Marcelo de Carvalho Filgueiras,Lucas A.D. Nicolau,Gerly Anne de Castro Brito,Gilberto Santos Cerqueira,Renan O. Silva,Marcellus H.L.P. Souza,Jand Venes R. Medeiros +11 more
TL;DR: Findings indicate that AMPK activation exerts gastroprotection against ethanol-induced gastric damage and mutually interacts with H2S, NO, or CO to facilitate this process.
