Journal ArticleDOI
Antidiarrheal activity of cashew GUM, a complex heteropolysaccharide extracted from exudate of Anacardium occidentale L. in rodents.
Thiago S.L. Araújo,Douglas S. Costa,Nayara A. Sousa,Luan Kelves Miranda de Souza,Simone de Araújo,Ana Patrícia de Oliveira,Francisca Beatriz M. Sousa,Durcilene Alves da Silva,André Luiz dos Reis Barbosa,José Roberto S. A. Leite,Jand Venes R. Medeiros +10 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that a complex heteropolysaccharide extracted from the exudate of A. occidentale L. has antidiarrheal activity in acute, inflammatory, and secretory diarrhea models, which could justify its traditional use in the treatment of diarrhea in northeast Brazil.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lycopene rich extract from red guava (Psidium guajava L.) displays anti-inflammatory and antioxidant profile by reducing suggestive hallmarks of acute inflammatory response in mice.
Andreanne G. Vasconcelos,Adriany das Graças Nascimento Amorim,Raimunda Cardoso dos Santos,Jessica Maria Teles Souza,Luan Kelves Miranda de Souza,Thiago S.L. Araújo,Lucas A.D. Nicolau,Lucas de Lima Carvalho,Pedro Everson Alexandre de Aquino,Conceição da Silva Martins,Cristina Dislich Ropke,Pedro Marcos Gomes Soares,Selma A S Kuckelhaus,Jand Venes R. Medeiros,José Roberto S. A. Leite,José Roberto S. A. Leite +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, the anti-inflammatory activity of the extract (LEG) and purified (LPG) lycopene from guava (Psidium guajava L.), as well as some mechanisms possibly involved in this effect, was investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carvacrol reduces irinotecan-induced intestinal mucositis through inhibition of inflammation and oxidative damage via TRPA1 receptor activation.
Elenice Monte Alvarenga,Luan Kelves Miranda de Souza,Thiago S.L. Araújo,Kerolayne M. Nogueira,Francisca Beatriz M. Sousa,Alyne Rodrigues de Araújo,Conceição da Silva Martins,Dvison M. Pacífico,Gerly Anne de Castro Brito,Emmanuel P. Souza,Damião Pergentino de Sousa,Jand Venes R. Medeiros +11 more
TL;DR: Carvacrol was found to exert an anti-inflammatory action against CPT-11-induced intestinal mucositis through strong interactions with TRPA1 receptors; reduction in the production or release or both of pro-inflammatory cytokines and decrease in other indicators of inflammation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antidiarrheal activity of α-terpineol in mice
Polyanna dos Santos Negreiros,Douglas S. Costa,Valdelânia G Silva,Izabela B.C. Lima,Daniel Barbosa Nunes,Francisca Beatriz M. Sousa,Thiago S.L. Araújo,Jand Venes R. Medeiros,Rosimeire Ferreira dos Santos,Rita de Cássia Meneses Oliveira +9 more
TL;DR: An anti-diarrheal activity of α-TPN is suggested due to its anticholinergic action, ability to block PGE2 and GM1 receptors and interaction with cholera toxin in secretory diarrhea, making it a promising candidate drug for the treatment of diarrheal diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Methyl-β-cyclodextrin Inclusion Complex with β-Caryophyllene: Preparation, Characterization, and Improvement of Pharmacological Activities
Pauline Sousa dos Santos,Luan Kelves Miranda de Souza,Thiago S.L. Araújo,Jand Venes R. Medeiros,Sandra C.C. Nunes,Rui A. Carvalho,Alberto A. C. C. Pais,Francisco Veiga,Lívio César Cunha Nunes,Ana Figueiras +9 more
TL;DR: This study provides for the first time a full characterization of inclusion complexes between BCP and MβCD and highlights the impact of complex formation upon pharmacological activity.
