Direct comparison of the rheology of model hard and soft particle glasses

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of particle softness and the role of the outer shell mechanics on the linear viscoelasticity and yielding behaviour of colloidal glasses are critically assessed using three different model colloidal particles: (i) sterically stabilized PMMA particles with model hard sphere interactions, (ii) core-shell microgels with a deformable PNIPAM outer shell and (iii) ultra-soft star-like micelles with interpenetrable multi-arms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stable responsive diblock copolymer micelles for rheology control

TL;DR: In this paper, stable block copolymer micelles with crosslinked rubbery cores serve as model soft colloids with tunable rheology, and the authors demonstrate this by studying systematically two such mouselles: one with a small polyisoprene core and long polystyrene hairs that dominate the response of the system, and another with a larger polybutadiene core and shorter polystyrin hairs, exhibiting colloid-like behavior.
Journal ArticleDOI

Physicochemical properties of electrostatically crosslinked carrageenan/chitosan hydrogels and carrageenan/chitosan/Laponite nanocomposite hydrogels.

TL;DR: In this paper , physical carrageenan/chitosan (Car/Chit) hydrogels are prepared by electrostatic complexation between the two oppositely charged polysaccharides.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structure and dynamics in suspensions of soft core-shell colloids in the fluid regime

TL;DR: Owing to the particle softness, the liquid-crystal coexistence regime is found to be broader than that of hard-sphere (HS) suspensions and the structure and short-time dynamics in fluid-regime suspensions of soft core-shell spherical particles are studied.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kinetics of Light-Induced Concentration Patterns in Transparent Polymer Solutions

TL;DR: This work focused on the simpler case of single polymer-rich filaments and employed phase contrast microscopy to systematically investigate the influence of laser illumination and material parameters on the kinetics of the optically induced local concentration increase in the polydiene solutions.
