From the Surface to the Deep-Sea: Bacterial Distributions across Polymetallic Nodule Fields in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone of the Pacific Ocean.

TL;DR: Results suggest that vertical export of typically abundant photic-zone microbes may be an important process in delivery of water column microorganisms to abyssal habitats, potentially influencing the structure and function of communities in polymetallic nodule fields.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of scientific gaps related to the effective environmental management of deep-seabed mining

TL;DR: In this paper , a synthesis of the peer-reviewed literature and consultations with deep-seabed mining stakeholders revealed that, despite an increase in deep-sea research, there are few categories of publicly available scientific knowledge comprehensive enough to enable evidence-based decision-making regarding environmental management.
Journal ArticleDOI

Grazing of intertidal benthic foraminifera on bacteria: Assessment using pulse-chase radiotracing

TL;DR: These experiments suggest that very little of the carbon ingested by adult calcareous foraminifera is incorporated into the shell, and cannot conclude that diet has no influence on the stable isotope composition of the shell since none of the authors' calcareously specimens grew new chambers during the experiments.
