Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative genome and phenotypic analysis of three Clostridioides difficile strains isolated from a single patient provide insight into multiple infection of C. difficile.
Uwe Groß,Elzbieta Brzuszkiewicz,Katrin Gunka,Jessica Starke,Thomas Riedel,Boyke Bunk,Cathrin Spröer,Daniela Wetzel,Anja Poehlein,Cynthia Maria Chibani,Wolfgang Bohne,Jörg Overmann,Ortrud Zimmermann,Rolf Daniel,Heiko Liesegang +14 more
TL;DR: Findings show that evolutionary events based on horizontal gene transfer occur within an ongoing CDI and contribute to the adaptation of the species by the introduction of new genes into the genomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
The genome of the ammonia-oxidizing Candidatus Nitrososphaera gargensis: insights into metabolic versatility and environmental adaptations.
Anja Spang,Anja Poehlein,Pierre Offre,Sabine Zumbrägel,Susanne Haider,Nicolas Rychlik,Boris Nowka,Christel Schmeisser,Elena V. Lebedeva,Thomas Rattei,Christoph Böhm,Markus Schmid,Alexander Galushko,Roland Hatzenpichler,Thomas Weinmaier,Rolf Daniel,Christa Schleper,Eva Spieck,Wolfgang R. Streit,Michael Wagner +19 more
TL;DR: The complete genome sequence of Candidatus Nitrososphaera gargensis is obtained from an enrichment culture, representing a different evolutionary lineage of AOA frequently found in high numbers in many terrestrial environments and it is shown that thaumarchaeota produce cofactor F420 as well as polyhydroxyalkanoates.
Journal ArticleDOI
An Ancient Pathway Combining Carbon Dioxide Fixation with the Generation and Utilization of a Sodium Ion Gradient for ATP Synthesis
Anja Poehlein,Silke Schmidt,Anne-Kristin Kaster,Meike Goenrich,John Vollmers,Andrea Thürmer,Johannes Bertsch,Kai Schuchmann,Birgit Voigt,Michael Hecker,Rolf Daniel,Rudolf K. Thauer,Gerhard Gottschalk,Volker Müller +13 more
TL;DR: The genome sequence of A. woodii solves the enigma and uncovers Rnf as the only ion-motive enzyme coupled to the pathway and unravels a metabolism designed to produce reduced ferredoxin and overcome energetic barriers by virtue of electron-bifurcating, soluble enzymes.
Journal ArticleDOI
New mode of energy metabolism in the seventh order of methanogens as revealed by comparative genome analysis of “Candidatus methanoplasma termitum”.
Kristina Lang,Jörg Schuldes,Andreas Klingl,Anja Poehlein,Rolf Daniel,Andreas Brune,Andreas Brune +6 more
TL;DR: The complete genome of “Candidatus Methanoplasma termitum” was sequenced from a highly enriched culture obtained from the intestinal tract of termites and compared it with the previously published genomes of three other strains from the human gut, including the first isolate of the Methanomassiliicoccales.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metagenome Survey of a Multispecies and Alga-Associated Biofilm Revealed Key Elements of Bacterial-Algal Interactions in Photobioreactors
Ines Krohn-Molt,Bernd Wemheuer,Malik Alawi,Malik Alawi,Anja Poehlein,Simon Güllert,Christel Schmeisser,Andreas Pommerening-Röser,Adam Grundhoff,Rolf Daniel,Dieter Hanelt,Wolfgang R. Streit +11 more
TL;DR: This is the first metagenome study of microalga- and PBR-associated biofilm bacteria, and it gives new clues for improved biofuel production in PBRs.
