Journal ArticleDOI
Signal peptide peptidase activity connects the unfolded protein response to plant defense suppression by Ustilago maydis.
Niko Pinter,Christina Andrea Hach,Martin Hampel,Dmitrij Rekhter,Krzysztof Zienkiewicz,Ivo Feussner,Anja Poehlein,Rolf Daniel,Florian Finkernagel,Kai Heimel +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that increased ER stress resistance is connected to Clp1-dependent alterations of Cib1 phosphorylation, protein stability and UPR gene expression, and it is identified by deletion screening of UPR core genes the signal peptide peptidase Spp1 as a novel key factor that is required for establishing a compatible biotrophic interaction between U. maydis and its host plant maize.
Journal ArticleDOI
Essentiality of c-di-AMP in Bacillus subtilis: Bypassing mutations converge in potassium and glutamate homeostasis
Larissa Krüger,Christina Herzberg,Hermann Rath,Tiago Pedreira,Till Ischebeck,Anja Poehlein,Jan Gundlach,Rolf Daniel,Uwe Völker,Ulrike Mäder,Jörg Stülke +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the essentiality of c-di-AMP in Bacillus subtilis is caused by the global impact of the second messenger nucleotide on different aspects of cellular physiology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence of Flp Pili-Encoding Plasmids in Cutibacterium acnes Isolates Obtained from Prostatic Tissue
Sabina Davidsson,Jessica Carlsson,Paula Mölling,Natyra Gashi,Ove Andrén,Swen-Olof Andersson,Elzbieta Brzuszkiewicz,Anja Poehlein,Munir A. Al-Zeer,Volker Brinkmann,Carsten Scavenius,Seven Nazipi,Bo Söderquist,Holger Brüggemann +13 more
TL;DR: This study provides new insight in the most prevalent prostatic subspecies of C. acnes, subsp.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reconstruction of the Metabolic Potential of Acidophilic Sideroxydans Strains from the Metagenome of an Microaerophilic Enrichment Culture of Acidophilic Iron-Oxidizing Bacteria from a Pilot Plant for the Treatment of Acid Mine Drainage Reveals Metabolic Versatility and Adaptation to Life at Low pH.
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors report on attempts to undertake a similar study on Gallionella-like acidophiles from acid mine drainage (AMD) from the lignite-mining district in Lusatia (East Germany) had previously demonstrated the dominance of two groups of acidophilic iron oxidizers: the novel candidate genus "Ferrovum" and a group comprising Gallionlla-like strains.
Journal ArticleDOI
Two Ways To Convert a Low-Affinity Potassium Channel to High Affinity: Control of Bacillus subtilis KtrCD by Glutamate.
Larissa Krüger,Christina Herzberg,Robert Warneke,Anja Poehlein,Janina Stautz,Martin Weiß,Rolf Daniel,Inga Hänelt,Jörg Stülke +8 more
TL;DR: It is discovered that the availability of glutamate strongly decreases the minimal external potassium concentration required for the highly abundant Bacillus subtilis potassium channel KtrCD to accumulate potassium.
