Journal ArticleDOI

Flood or drought: How do aerosols affect precipitation?

TL;DR: A conceptual model is proposed that explains this apparent dichotomy of pristine tropical clouds with low CCN concentrations rain out too quickly to mature into long-lived clouds and heavily polluted clouds evaporate much of their water before precipitation can occur.
Journal ArticleDOI

A new feedback mechanism linking forests, aerosols, and climate

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the connection between forest-atmosphere carbon exchange and aerosol dynamics in the continental boundary layer by means of multiannual data sets of particle formation and growth rates, of CO2 fluxes, and of monoterpene concentrations in a Scots pine forest in southern Finland.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sulphuric acid closure and contribution to nucleation mode particle growth

TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured and calculated sulphuric acid concentrations based on pseudo steady state model with corresponding measurements of CO, NOx, O3, SO2, methane and non-methane hydrocarbon (NMHC) concentrations as well as solar spectral irradiance and particle number concentrations with size distributions.
Journal Article

Long-term measurements of surface fluxes above a Scots pine forest in Hyytiala, southern Finland, 1996-2001

TL;DR: Nearly six years of measurements of surface fluxes of momentum, sensible heat, water vapour, carbon dioxide and aerosol particles, along with a three-month time series of ozone flux, measured by eddy covariance above a Scots pine forest in southern Finland from April 1996 to December 2001 are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Formation of acetone from the OH radical‐ and O3‐initiated reactions of a series of monoterpenes

TL;DR: In this article, the formation yields of acetone from the gas phase reactions of the OH radical and O3 with a series of monoterpenes have been measured at room temperature and atmospheric pressure of air.
