Nonlinear Optics: feature issue introduction

TL;DR: This joint issue of Optics Express and Optical Materials Express features 18 state-of-the art articles that witness actual developments in nonlinear optics, including those by authors who participated in the international conference Nonlinear Optics held in Waikoloa, Hawaii from July 15 to 19, 2019.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Fiber signature-domain multiplexing for high-speed shape sensing

TL;DR: In this paper , a novel method to simultaneously measure the cores of a multi-core fiber, enabling higher acquisition rates in shape sensing, was introduced, where the two-dimensional shape of the optical fiber was determined from the distributed strain measurements performed with the optical frequency domain reflectometry technique.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Investigation of an integrated photonic dual-pumped phase-sensitive amplifier based on a highly saturated semiconductor optical amplifier

TL;DR: In this article, an integrated photonic phase-sensitive amplifier with a dual-pumped four-wave mixing architecture is investigated, and the gain curves with multiple periods are theoretically studied and experimentally demonstrated with approximately 7.8 dB extinction gain.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

A non-intrusive characterization of long fiber link birefringence

TL;DR: It is shown that the optical fiber birefringence can be characterized using two easily measured parameters, the differential group delay and the Faraday rotation angle induced by a weak magnetic field.
