A chemical study of organic materials in three murals by Keith Haring: A comparison of painting techniques

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) to characterize the chemical composition of the paint materials used by the artist in three different Keith Haring outdoor murals, Tuttomondo in Pisa (1989), the Necker Hospital mural in Paris (1987), and the Melbourne mural (1984).
Journal ArticleDOI

Portable diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) technique for the non-invasive identification of canvas ground: IR spectra reference collection

TL;DR: A portable diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) method for the non-invasive characterization of grounds in paintings is presented in this paper, where there is no need to sample or touch the artworks and the analysis can be performed directly on site.
Journal ArticleDOI

Towards the non-invasive proteomic analysis of cultural heritage objects

TL;DR: This study reports the first use of this non-invasive method for the characterization of proteins from a wide range of ancient objects belonging to the world Cultural Heritage without the need to transport or micro-invasively sampling the artifacts.
Journal ArticleDOI

60 years of street art: A comparative study of the artists’ materials through spectroscopic and mass spectrometric approaches

TL;DR: In this paper, a set of analyses of microsamples based on spectroscopy, analytical pyrolysis, gas and liquid chromatography, and mass spectrometry was performed to identify paint materials (binders, pigments, additives, degradation products and conservation/restoration materials) of a selection of mural paintings, covering 60 years of history (1953-2014).

Conserving contemporary art : issues, methods, materials, and research

TL;DR: A thorough investigation of the material and philosophical aspects of conserving contemporary art can be found in this paper, where the conservator's intervention has become increasingly delicate, problematic, and experimental and requires not only technical knowledge of these materials but also a greater awareness of the artist's intellectual universe.
