Journal ArticleDOI

The sialyltransferase sialylmotif participates in binding the donor substrate cmp-neuac

TL;DR: Kinetic analysis and site-directed mutagenesis results suggest that the conserved sialylmotif in the sIALyltransferase gene family participates in the binding of the common donor substrate, CMP-NeuAc.
Journal ArticleDOI

Systematic nomenclature for sialyltransferases

TL;DR: In this article, the Frontier Research Program at the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN) was used for the development of a new laboratory for molecular glycobiology.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mutation of the sialyltransferase S-sialylmotif alters the kinetics of the donor and acceptor substrates.

TL;DR: Kinetic analysis for the mutants which retained sialyltransferase activity showed that the mutations in the S-sialylmotif caused a change ofK m values for both the donor and the acceptor substrates, indicating that this motif participates in the binding of both the substrates.
Journal ArticleDOI

Conserved cysteines in the sialyltransferase sialylmotifs form an essential disulfide bond.

TL;DR: Results suggest that the invariant cysteine residues in the L- and S-sialylmotifs participate in the formation of an intradisulfide linkage that is essential for proper conformation and activity of ST6Gal I.
