An overview of the problems posed by plastic products and the role of extended producer responsibility in Europe
Walter Leal Filho,Walter Leal Filho,Ulla A. Saari,Mariia Fedoruk,Arvo Iital,Harri Moora,Marija Klõga,Viktoria Voronova +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the role of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) principle and its application may assist in fostering the collection and recycling of waste streams that contain plastic, and some recommendations that may be useful in enhancing extended producer responsibility.
Journal ArticleDOI
Climate change and the potential effects on runoff and nitrogen losses in the Nordic–Baltic region
Lillian Øygarden,Johannes Deelstra,Ainis Lagzdins,Marianne Bechmann,Inga Greipsland,Katarina Kyllmar,Arvydas Povilaitis,Arvo Iital +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an overview of the expected climatic changes in the Nordic-Baltic region, and the possible effects of these changes on runoff and Nitrogen losses are given.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of large-scale changes in emissions on nutrient concentrations in Estonian rivers in the Lake Peipsi drainage basin
TL;DR: In this article, the impact of the fall of the Iron Curtain on concentrations of nutrients (N and P) at 22 sampling sites on Estonian rivers are examined, and statistically significant downward trends (one-sided test at the 5% level) in total nitrogen (TN) concentrations at 20 of the 22 sites.
Journal ArticleDOI
Large‐scale relationships between basin and riparian land cover and the ecological status of European rivers
Jean-Gabriel Wasson,Bertrand Villeneuve,Arvo Iital,John Murray-Bligh,Marcela Dobiasova,Stanislava Bacikova,Henn Timm,Hervé Pella,Nicolas Mengin,André Chandesris +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed large-scale models linking invertebrate indices of ecological quality to river basin and riparian land cover in France, Slovakia, Estonia and UK, based on Partial Least Squares regressions at national and a hydro-ecoregion (HER) scales.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of microalgae production coupled with wastewater treatment
TL;DR: Economic analysis revealed that potentially more than 70% of revenue was from the production of pigments, that is, chlorophyllin, lutein and β-carotene, and this cultivation strategy was found with the current prices to be uneconomical.
