ion. The oxidative addition mechanism was originally proposed22i because of the lack of a strong rate dependence on polar factors and on the acidity of the medium. Later, however, the electrophilic substitution mechanism also was proposed. Recently, the oxidative addition mechanism was confirmed by investigations into the decomposition and protonolysis of alkylplatinum complexes, which are the reverse of alkane activation. There are two routes which operate in the decomposition of the dimethylplatinum(IV) complex Cs2Pt(CH3)2Cl4. The first route leads to chloride-induced reductive elimination and produces methyl chloride and methane. The second route leads to the formation of ethane. There is strong kinetic evidence that the ethane is produced by the decomposition of an ethylhydridoplatinum(IV) complex formed from the initial dimethylplatinum(IV) complex. In D2O-DCl, the ethane which is formed contains several D atoms and has practically the same multiple exchange parameter and distribution as does an ethane which has undergone platinum(II)-catalyzed H-D exchange with D2O. Moreover, ethyl chloride is formed competitively with H-D exchange in the presence of platinum(IV). From the principle of microscopic reversibility it follows that the same ethylhydridoplatinum(IV) complex is the intermediate in the reaction of ethane with platinum(II). Important results were obtained by Labinger and Bercaw62c in the investigation of the protonolysis mechanism of several alkylplatinum(II) complexes at low temperatures. These reactions are important because they could model the microscopic reverse of C-H activation by platinum(II) complexes. Alkylhydridoplatinum(IV) complexes were observed as intermediates in certain cases, such as when the complex (tmeda)Pt(CH2Ph)Cl or (tmeda)PtMe2 (tmeda ) N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylenediamine) was treated with HCl in CD2Cl2 or CD3OD, respectively. In some cases H-D exchange took place between the methyl groups on platinum and the, CD3OD prior to methane loss. On the basis of the kinetic results, a common mechanism was proposed to operate in all the reactions: (1) protonation of Pt(II) to generate an alkylhydridoplatinum(IV) intermediate, (2) dissociation of solvent or chloride to generate a cationic, fivecoordinate platinum(IV) species, (3) reductive C-H bond formation, producing a platinum(II) alkane σ-complex, and (4) loss of the alkane either through an associative or dissociative substitution pathway. These results implicate the presence of both alkane σ-complexes and alkylhydridoplatinum(IV) complexes as intermediates in the Pt(II)-induced C-H activation reactions. Thus, the first step in the alkane activation reaction is formation of a σ-complex with the alkane, which then undergoes oxidative addition to produce an alkylhydrido complex. Reversible interconversion of these intermediates, together with reversible deprotonation of the alkylhydridoplatinum(IV) complexes, leads to multiple H-D exchange

Mesoporous MCM-41 Silica Supported Pyridine Nanoparticle: A Highly Efficient, Recyclable Catalyst for Expeditious Synthesis of Quinoline Derivatives through Domino Approach

Synthesis of enantiomerically pure drug molecules using functionalized mesoporous materials bearing a chiral moiety is a longstanding goal in heterogeneous catalysis. Herein, we report an efficient and enantioselective one-pot Henry reaction over a highly ordered functionalized mesoporous silica-supported chiral copper-salen catalyst, Cu(II)@AFS-1, in DCM at RT. The catalyst was characterized by UV-Vis, FT-IR spectroscopy, PXRD, N2 adsorption/desorption, HR-TEM, EPR, and thermogravimetric and elemental analyses. The diastereoselective Henry reaction of nitroethane was carried out by using this catalyst to obtain good yields (up to 96%) and ee (up to 95%) of β-nitroalcohols with acceptable dr (3.2 : 1). Additionally, the enantiomerically pure drug (R)-(−)-isoproterenol can be synthesized through the asymmetric Henry reaction of 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde over this chiral mesoporous Cu-catalyst as a key step.

Chiral copper-salen complex grafted over functionalized mesoporous silica as an efficient catalyst for asymmetric Henry reactions and synthesis of the potent drug (R)-isoproterenol

Herein we report the structural, microstructural, dc magnetic and hyperfine properties along with catalytic activity of mechanosynthesized nanosized Ni0.45Zn0.55Fe2O4 (∼12 nm). The Rietveld refinement of the powder X-ray diffraction data, high resolution transmission electron microscopy and the infield Mossbauer study suggest that the sample is nanosized pure single phase cubic spinel of Fdm symmetry with good crystallinity and it possesses equilibrium cation distribution ((Fe3+0.45Zn2+0.55)A[Fe3+1.55Ni2+0.45]BO4). The sample exhibits ferrimagnetic ordering with high saturation magnetization (MSAT = 53, 72 and 76 emu g−1 at 300, 100 and 10 K, respectively), coercivity (HC = 280, 1200 and 2800 Oe at 300, 100 and 10 K, respectively), collective magnetic excitations, spin canting and memory effect in dc magnetization. The infield Mossbauer study suggests that the interior region of the particles is perfectly ferrimagnetic in nature, while the spins at the surface region are ferrimagnetically coupled but noncollinearly aligned. Despite its nanometric size, the sample does not show superparamagnetic behavior but rather retains stable magnetic order at room temperature due to enhancement of stress and surface anisotropy energy caused by high energy ball milling. We have shown that the presence of collective magnetic state along with surface spin disorder are the underlying reason for having slow dynamics and memory effect in the sample. Further, the BET (Brunauer–Emmett–Teller) surface area and the pore volume of the sample are 233 m2 g−1 and 0.475 cm3 g−1, respectively. The temperature programmed desorption (TPD) of ammonia suggests that the surface of this porous material is highly acidic (1.516 mmol g−1). Because of its high surface acidity and BET surface area the material acts as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst in the one pot synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidine-2(1H)-ones (DHPMs) by Biginelli condensation reaction. This sample can be used in magnetic data storage devices, coding, storing and retrieving of binary numbers through magnetic field change and also as a very efficient heterogeneous, magnetically separable and recyclable catalyst.

N-rich graphitic carbon nitride functionalized graphene oxide nanosheet hybrid as anode for high performance lithium-ion batteries

A new crystalline microporous organic-inorganic hybrid material containing a diimine fluorophore inside the framework has been synthesized solvothermally without using any template or structure-directing agent (SDA). Powder XRD and N2 sorption analyses suggested the formation of a new triclinic phase and supermicropores of dimension 1.39–1.53 nm in this material. 13C CP MAS, 29Si MAS NMR, UV/Vis absorption and PL spectroscopic results suggested the presence of bridging organic diimine fluorophore in this new porous framework. Due to the use of sole fluorophore organosilane moiety in this organic-inorganic hybrid framework, this material shows very large affinity toward metal cations like Fe3+, Zn2+, Cd2+ and Hg2+, and thus can be efficiently utilized as metal ion chemosensor and exchanger. All the metal ion-exchanged samples show very strong photoluminescence at room temperature and strong dependence of emission colors when exchanged with a particular metal cation.(© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
