Pretreatment methods to improve sludge anaerobic degradability: a review.
Hélène Carrère,Claire Dumas,Audrey Battimelli,Damien J. Batstone,J.P. Delgenes,Jean-Philippe Steyer,Ivet Ferrer,Ivet Ferrer +7 more
TL;DR: This paper presents a review of the main sludge treatment techniques used as a pretreatment to anaerobic digestion, and it is likely that low impact pretreatment methods such as mechanical and thermal phased improve speed of degradation, while high impact methods improve both speed and extent of degradation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Review of feedstock pretreatment strategies for improved anaerobic digestion: From lab-scale research to full-scale application.
Hélène Carrère,Georgia Antonopoulou,Rim Affes,Fabiana Passos,Audrey Battimelli,Gerasimos Lyberatos,Ivet Ferrer +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the most appropriate pretreatment for the main feedstocks of biogas plants is discussed, which can enhance the methane potential and/or anaerobic digestion rate, improving digester performance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comprehensive characterization of the liquid fraction of digestates from full-scale anaerobic co-digestion
TL;DR: Liquid fraction of digestate obtained after solid-liquid separation from 11 full-scale co-digestion plants has poor biodegradability due to presence of humic substances making aerobic treatment inefficient and only physico-chemical post treatment can be proposed for organic matter removal.
Journal ArticleDOI
Combined ozone pretreatment and anaerobic digestion for the reduction of biological sludge production in wastewater treatment
TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the impact of ozone pretreatment on anaerobic digestion and particularly the enhancement of biogas production in waste activated sludge treatment and found that ozone dose of 0.15 g O3/g total solids resulted in a considerable increase in the soluble COD ratio.
Journal ArticleDOI
Slaughterhouse fatty waste saponification to increase biogas yield
TL;DR: The enhanced biodegradation of slaughterhouse wastes should be attributed to an increased initial bio-availability of fatty wastes without any modification of their long chain structure which remained slowly biodegradable.
