Journal ArticleDOI
Paucity of CD4+ CCR5+ T Cells May Prevent Transmission of Simian Immunodeficiency Virus in Natural Nonhuman Primate Hosts by Breast-Feeding
Ivona Pandrea,Richard Onanga,Sandrine Souquière,Augustin Mouinga-Ondémé,Olivier Bourry,Maria Makuwa,Pierre Rouquet,Guido Silvestri,François Simon,Pierre Roques,Cristian Apetrei +10 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that low levels of this viral coreceptor on CD4+ T cells may be involved in the lack of breast-feeding transmission in natural hosts of SIVs, as observed in young mandrills and African green monkeys.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cross-species transmission of simian foamy virus to humans in rural Gabon, central Africa
Augustin Mouinga-Ondémé,Mélanie Caron,Dieudonné Nkoghe,Paul Telfer,Preston A. Marx,Ali Saïb,Eric M. Leroy,Jean-Paul Gonzalez,Antoine Gessain,Mirdad Kazanji +9 more
TL;DR: Novel SFV strains in NHPs in Gabon are found and high cross-species transmission of SFVs from gorilla bites is investigated, with novel SFVs in several Cercopithecus species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Virological failure rates and HIV-1 drug resistance patterns in patients on first-line antiretroviral treatment in semirural and rural Gabon
Florian Liegeois,Caroline Vella,Sabrina Eymard-Duvernay,Jeanne Sica,Laurent Makosso,Augustin Mouinga-Ondémé,Arnaud Delis Mongo,Vanina Boué,Christelle Butel,Martine Peeters,Jean-Paul Gonzalez,Eric Delaporte,François Rouet +12 more
TL;DR: As antiretroviral treatment (ART) continues to expand in resource‐limited countries, the emergence of HIV drug resistance mutations (DRMs) is challenging in these settings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of hepatitis B virus subgenotype A3 in rural Gabon.
Maria Makuwa,Sandrine Souquière,Paul Telfer,Cristian Apetrei,Muriel Vray,Issa Bedjabaga,Augustin Mouinga-Ondémé,Richard Onanga,Preston A. Marx,Mirdad Kazanji,Pierre Roques,François Simon +11 more
TL;DR: An hepatitis B virus (HBV) molecular survey was conducted in five remote villages in the equatorial forest in Gabon, Central Africa, and revealed that Gabonese HBV strains were distinct from HBV‐A subgenotypes (A1 and A2) and clustered with previously reported HBv‐A3 subgenotype strains from Cameroon and Democratic Republic of Congo.
Journal ArticleDOI
Primary Simian Immunodeficiency Virus SIVmnd-2 Infection in Mandrills (Mandrillus sphinx)
Richard Onanga,Sandrine Souquière,Maria Makuwa,Augustin Mouinga-Ondémé,François Simon,Cristian Apetrei,Pierre Roques +6 more
TL;DR: The dynamics of SIVmnd-2 infection in mandrills showed a pattern similar to that of Siva mnd-1 infection, which might be a general feature of nonpathogenic SIV natural African NHP models.
