Implementing ecological intensification in fish farming: definition and principles from contrasting experiences
Joël Aubin,Myriam D. Callier,Hélène Rey-Valette,Syndhia Mathé,Aurélie Wilfart,Marc Legendre,Jacques Slembrouck,Domenico Caruso,Eduardo Chia,Gérard Masson,Jean Paul Blancheton,Edi Ediwarman,Joni Haryadi,Tri Heru Prihadi,Jorge de Matos Casaca,Sergio T.J. Tamassia,Aurélien Tocqueville,Pascal Fontaine +17 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors adapted the concept of ecological intensification to fish farming using agroecological principles and the ecosystem services framework and developed an assessment tool that was used as a basis for co-building evolution scenarios.
Journal ArticleDOI
Environmental assessment of trout farming in France by life cycle assessment: using bootstrapped principal component analysis to better define system classification
TL;DR: In this article, a system to classify trout farms based on environmental impacts calculated by life cycle assessment and technical and economic indicators was described, which was used to evaluate both technical-economic and environmental indicators of the trout farms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mass balanced based LCA of a common carp-lettuce aquaponics system.
TL;DR: In this article, an aquaponics system (AS) is an integrated system that combines a recirculating aquaculture system and a hydroponics system (HS) to recover nutrients released from fish and transfer them to plants to provide a system more environmentally friendly than the two systems working separately.

Guide for implementing ecological intensification of aquaculture systems
Joël Aubin,Hélène Rey-Valette,Syndhia Mathé,Aurélie Wilfart,Marc Legendre,Jacques Slembrouck,Eduardo Chia,Gérard Masson,Myriam D. Callier,Jean Paul Blancheton,Aurélien Tocqueville,Domenico Caruso,Pascal Fontaine +12 more
TL;DR: This guide proposes pathways for implementation of ecological intensification in aquatic ecosystems of aquaculture and supplies many potential objectives based on concepts of agro-ecology, ecosystem services, and processes for co-constructing eco-innovations.
