Journal ArticleDOI

Using observations of deep convective systems to constrain atmospheric column absorption of solar radiation in the optically thick limit

TL;DR: In this article, satellite-surface observations for the optically thick Deep Convective Systems (DCS) at the Department of Energy Atmosphere Radiation Measurement (ARM) Tropical Western Pacific (TWP) and Southern Great Plains (SGP) sites during the period of March 2000 December 2004 were collocated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impacts of long-range transport of aerosols on marine-boundary-layer clouds in the eastern North Atlantic

TL;DR: In this article, the authors utilized the in situ measurements from the Eastern North Atlantic (ACE-ENA) aircraft field campaign and ground-based remote sensing data along with an aerosol-aware Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) model to characterize the aerosols due to long-range transport over a remote region and assess their possible influence on marine-boundary-layer (MBL) clouds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Investigation of aerosol–cloud interactions under different absorptive aerosol regimes using Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) southern Great Plains (SGP) ground-based measurements

TL;DR: In this article, the aerosol-cloud interaction index (ACIr) was used to quantify the impact of aerosol impacts with respect to cloud-droplet effective radius on cloud microphysical and radiative properties.
