Journal ArticleDOI
Air pollution and COVID-19: clearing the air and charting a post-pandemic course: a joint workshop report of ERS, ISEE, HEI and WHO.
Zorana Jovanovic Andersen,Barbara Hoffmann,Lidia Morawska,Martin Adams,Eeva Furman,Arzu Yorgancioglu,Dan Greenbaum,Maria Neira,Bert Brunekreef,Francesco Forastiere,Mary B. Rice,François Wakenhut,Erika Coleen,Hanna Boogaard,Ulrike Gehring,Erik Melén,Brian Ward,Sara De Matteis,Sara De Matteis +18 more
TL;DR: The potential role of air pollution in the spread and worsening of health impacts of COVID-19, and the influence of the pandemic on air pollution levels in Europe is explored in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coronary artery calcification outperforms thoracic aortic calcification for the prediction of myocardial infarction and all-cause mortality: The Heinz Nixdorf Recall Study:
Hagen Kälsch,Nils Lehmann,Marie H. Berg,Amir A. Mahabadi,Paul Mergen,Stefan Möhlenkamp,Marcus Bauer,Kaffer Kara,Nico Dragano,Barbara Hoffmann,Susanne Moebus,Axel Schmermund,Andreas Stang,Karl-Heinz Jöckel,Raimund Erbel +14 more
TL;DR: Thoracic aortic calcification fails to improve event prediction over CAC in both coronary events and all-cause mortality in the general population, independent of traditional CV risk factors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Applicability of the Global Lung Initiative 2012 Reference Values for Spirometry for Longitudinal Data of Elderly Women.
Anke Hüls,Ursula Krämer,Sabine Stolz,Frauke Hennig,Barbara Hoffmann,Katja Ickstadt,Andrea Vierkötter,Tamara Schikowski +7 more
TL;DR: GLI z-scores fit cross-sectionally and longitudinally with FEV1, FVC and FEV 1/FVC measured in women from Germany which indicates that they can be used in longitudinal association analyses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of air pollution on exhaled nitric oxide in children: Results from the GINIplus and LISAplus studies
Chuang Liu,Claudia Flexeder,Elaine Fuertes,Josef Cyrys,Carl-Peter Bauer,Sibylle Koletzko,Barbara Hoffmann,Andrea von Berg,Joachim Heinrich +8 more
TL;DR: Significant positive associations were observed between short-term ambient air pollution and eNO and the same significant associations were also observed in non-asthmatic children, while they did not reach significant levels in asthmatic children.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum 25(OH)D concentrations and atopic diseases at age 10: results from the GINIplus and LISAplus birth cohort studies.
Nina Wawro,Joachim Heinrich,Elisabeth Thiering,Jürgen Kratzsch,Beate Schaaf,Barbara Hoffmann,Irina Lehmann,Carl-Peter Bauer,Sibylle Koletzko,Andrea von Berg,Dietrich Berdel,Jakob Linseisen +11 more
TL;DR: No indication that higher blood 25(OH)D levels are associated with decreased risk for any of the atopic outcomes in children is found, however, a positive association of serum 25( OH)D concentrations with eczema and detectable specific IgE is observed.
