Toward a 256-Pixel Array of Gamma-Ray Microcalorimeters for Nuclear-Materials Analysis
William B. Doriese,Joel N. Ullom,J. A. Beall,William Duncan,L. Ferreira,Gene C. Hilton,Robert D. Horansky,Kent D. Irwin,John A. B. Mates,Carl D. Reintsema,Daniel Schmidt,Leila R. Vale,Y. Xu,Barry L. Zink,M. K. Bacrania,Andrew S. Hoover,C.R. Rudy,Michael W. Rabin,Caroline A. Kilbourne,Kevin R. Boyce,L. E. Brown,J. King,Frederick S. Porter +22 more
TL;DR: A gamma-ray spectrometer for the analysis of nuclear materials based on an array of superconducting transition-edge-sensor microcalorimeters was proposed in this article.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification and elimination of anomalous thermal decay in gamma-ray microcalorimeters
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that long-lived states in the glue used for absorber attachment have been the dominant cause of the slow response of microcalorimeter detectors to gamma-ray events.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Microcalorimeter Nuclear Spectrometers
Michael W. Rabin,Andrew S. Hoover,C.R. Rudy,S.P. Lamont,D.M. Tournear,Duc Vo,J. A. Beall,William B. Doriese,William Duncan,L. Ferreira,Gene C. Hilton,Robert D. Horansky,Kent D. Irwin,O'Neilm Gc,C. D. Reintsema,Joel N. Ullom,L. R. Vale,K.E. Chesson,Barry L. Zink +18 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present results from the initial testing of arrays of cryogenic microcalorimeter gamma-ray detectors, and investigate the relationship between operating conditions and array performance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fabrication of prototype imaging arrays for SCUBA-2
Gene C. Hilton,J. A. Beall,William B. Doriese,William Duncan,L. Ferreira,Kent D. Irwin,Carl D. Reintsema,Joel N. Ullom,Leila R. Vale,Y. Xu,Barry L. Zink,William Parkes,Andrew Bunting,Camelia Dunare,Alan M. Gundlach,J.T.M. Stevenson,Anthony J. Walton,Eric F Schulte,E. Corrales,J.P. Sienicki,Dan Bintley,Peter A. R. Ade,R. V. Sudiwala,Adam Woodcraft,Mark Halpern,Wayne S. Holland,Michael D. Audley,M. J. MacIntosh +27 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a prototype image subarray for SCUBA-2 (the Submillimeter Common-User Bolometer Array) has been fabricated and tested and the pixel count (1280) of these wafer-scale imagers is significantly larger than any other low-temperature detectors produced to date.
Journal ArticleDOI
Excess Modes and Enhanced Scattering in Rare-Earth Doped Amorphous Silicon Thin Films
TL;DR: In this paper, specific heat and thermal conductivity of gadolinium-and yttrium-doped amorphous silicon thin films measured using silicon-nitride membrane-based microcalorimeters is reported.
