Journal ArticleDOI
The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Psychological Distress, Physical Activity, and Symptom Severity in Parkinson's Disease.
TL;DR: Findings show how an external stressor (the COVID-19 pandemic) leads to a worsening of PD symptoms by evoking psychological distress as well as lifestyle changes (reduced physical activity).
Journal ArticleDOI
Postoperative gait deterioration after bilateral subthalamic nucleus stimulation in Parkinson's disease.
Bart F.L. van Nuenen,Rianne A. J. Esselink,Marten Munneke,Johhannes D. Speelman,Teus van Laar,Bastiaan R. Bloem +5 more
TL;DR: A delayed worsening of gait after bilateral STN stimulation was experienced by a considerable proportion of patients (42% of subjects, for gait in the OFF phase), and this was apparently relatively “selective” because their global outcome scores continued to be improved.
Journal ArticleDOI
Postural reflexes in Parkinson's disease during ‘resist’ and ‘yield’ tasks
TL;DR: Patients with Parkinson's disease have abnormal and 'inflexible' postural reflexes, associated with delayed corrective movements about the ankle joint and increased body sway; the increased forward displacement of the CFP in patients likely reflects high stiffness in ankle muscles.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trunk sway in patients with spinocerebellar ataxia.
TL;DR: Trunk sway measurements were effective in detecting and quantifying the gait and balance abnormalities in SCA patients, suggesting that this method might be used for follow‐up studies of SCA customers, and might help to identify early symptomatic individuals and those patients at risk of falling.
Journal ArticleDOI
Are automatic postural responses in patients with Parkinson's disease abnormal due to their stooped posture?
TL;DR: Assessment of automatic postural responses in 30 healthy subjects indicates that some postural abnormalities of patients with Parkinson’s disease can be reproduced in healthy subjects mimicking a stooped parkinsonian posture.
