Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of spectinomycin on polypeptide synthesis in extracts of Escherichia coli

TL;DR: Evidence is presented that Spcotinomycin blocks some aspect of the complex translocation process in the cycle of amino acid transfer, and that this lag depends on having the ribosomes reach the susceptible state, rather than on a slow interaction of Spc with some component of the system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interaction of secreted nascent chains with surrounding membrane in Bacillus subtilis.

TL;DR: Evidence that bacterial ribosomes are attached to membrane solely by their secreted chain is presented, and it is suggested that the chain does not slip through a passive membrane but is actively held within a channel.
