Clonal integration helps Psammochloa villosa survive sand burial in an inland dune

TL;DR: It is concluded that clonal integration increased the ability of P.villosa to withstand sand burial, and that P. villosa could emerge from deep burial probably by elongating vertical structures with the help of the energy imported from the connected, unburied ramets.
Journal ArticleDOI

Plant succession and soil development on the foreland of the Morteratsch glacier (Pontresina, Switzerland) : straight forward or chaotic?

TL;DR: In this article, a multimethodological approach using floristic inventories, vegetation and soil mapping of the pro-glacial area in order to detect crucial parameters controlling plant resettlement in recently deglaciated areas as related to time, local microtopography and soil development is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changes in the species composition and conservation value of limestone grasslands in Northern Switzerland after 22 years of contrasting managements

TL;DR: According to the results, the best strategy—for achieving and maintaining a high species diversity—is a mosaic of different management types, i.e. a central part of the grassland managed traditionally, mown annually in July, and large strips at the margins mown only every second year in July or October.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impact of herbivory by red deer ( Cervus elaphus L.) on patterns and processes in subalpine grasslands in the Swiss National Park

TL;DR: A highly significant correlation is found between the changes in the numbers of plant species and red deer, with species richness increasing with increasing deer density, and a sharp increase in species richness between 1917 and 1999.
Journal ArticleDOI

Degradation of an arid coastal landscape in relation to land use changes in Southern Tenerife (Canary Islands)

TL;DR: In this paper, a study of land use changes between 1964 and 1992 in Southern Tenerife (Canary Islands) is presented and discussed in relation to the general socioeconomic processes and the current nature conservation policy.
