How extensive are yield declines in long-term rice-wheat experiments in Asia?
Jagdish K. Ladha,David Dawe,Himanshu Pathak,A. T. Padre,R. L. Yadav,Bijay Singh,Yadvinder Singh,Y.V. Singh,P. P. Singh,Amitabh Kundu,R. Sakal,N. Ram,A. P. Regmi,S. K. Gami,A. L. Bhandari,R. Amin,C. R. Yadav,E. M. Bhattarai,S. K. Das,H.P Aggarwal,R. K. Gupta,Peter Hobbs +21 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed 33 rice-wheat LTE in the Indo-Gangetic Plains (IGP) of South Asia, non-IGP in India, and China to investigate the extent of yield stagnation or decline and identify possible causes of yield decline.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trends of climatic potential and on-farm yields of rice and wheat in the Indo-Gangetic Plains
Himanshu Pathak,Jagdish K. Ladha,Pramod K. Aggarwal,Shaobing Peng,S. K. Das,Yadvinder Singh,Bijay Singh,S. K. Kamra,B. D. Mishra,A.S.R.A.S Sastri,H.P Aggarwal,Dilip Kumar Das,R. K. Gupta +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the potential yields of rice and wheat in the Indo-Gangetic Plains (IGP) were simulated using a crop simulation modeling approach and the long-term trends of potential and on-farm yields were compared.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chlorophyll Meter– and Leaf Color Chart–Based Nitrogen Management for Rice and Wheat in Northwestern India
Bijay Singh,Yadvinder Singh,Jagdish K. Ladha,Kevin F. Bronson,Kevin F. Bronson,V. Balasubramanian,Jagdeep Singh,Charan S. Khind +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the chlorophyll meter, also known as SPAD meter, is a simple, portable diagnostic tool for identifying crop N status, and the authors used it to test need-based N management approaches for rice (Oryza sativa L.) and wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) on a loamy sand in northwestern India.
Journal ArticleDOI
How widespread are yield declines in long-term rice experiments in Asia?
David Dawe,Achim Dobermann,Piedad F. Moya,S. Abdulrachman,Bijay Singh,P. Lal,S.Y Li,B Lin,G. Panaullah,O. Sariam,Yadvinder Singh,Anand Swarup,P. S. Tan,Q.-X. Zhen +13 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that while yield declines exist in some LTEs, they are less common than previously thought, particularly at moderate yield levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fertilizer-N use efficiency and nitrate pollution of groundwater in developing countries
TL;DR: In this paper, a limited number of investigations from developing countries suggest that, in irrigated soils of Asia or in humid tropics of Africa, the potential exists for nitrate pollution of groundwater, especially if fertilizer-N is inefficiently managed.
