Complete Larval Development of the Fresh Water Prawn Macrobrachium vollenhovenii in Cameroon

TL;DR: The general poor performance in terms of survival and metamorphosis rates of larvae seems to be related to the wild condition of broodstock, and domestication of stock may be necessary to improve performance of larvae.
Journal ArticleDOI

Morphological and molecular characterization of freshwater prawn of genus Macrobrachium in the coastal area of Cameroon.

TL;DR: The morphological and molecular identification of freshwater prawns of the genus Macrobrachium in South, South West, and Littoral regions of Cameroon revealed four groups, but the principal component analysis (PCA) separated M. vollenhovenii and M. sollaudii, suggesting a potential conflict between the morphological identification key and the genetic basis underlying speciation and species allocation for Macrobraches.
Journal ArticleDOI

Three dispersal routes out of Africa: A puzzling biogeographical history in freshwater planarians

TL;DR: In this article , the authors propose that Dugesia may have either an ancient origin on a large palaeo landmass, followed by colonisation in different regions before continental fragmentation, or a more recent origin and subsequent transoceanic dispersal.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of nutrient concentrations on the seasonal abundance and distribution of Cyanophyceae in the coastal region of Mount Cameroon

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the nutrient and species composition of blue-green algae in the surface waters at 15 stations from three sites along the Mount Cameroon region (Mudeka Creek, Tito Creek and Idenau Beach) during the rainy season, from July to August 1999, and during the dry season from February to March 2000.
Journal ArticleDOI

High Incidence of Cyanobacterial Blooms along the Coast of the Cameroon Gulf of Guinea and their Effects on Human Health and Amenities

TL;DR: The coast of the Cameroon Gulf of Guinea (GoG) comprises areas like the, Idenau beach, Mudeka/Tiko creeks, Limbe estuary and Douala Lagoon most of which are in the immediate vicinity of industrial zones, logging stations and an oil refinery.
