Formation of a Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 Core of Optimal Stability Is Crucial for Viral Replication
TL;DR: It is concluded that formation of a viral core of optimal stability is a prerequisite for efficient HIV-1 infection and suggested that disassembly of the HIV- 1 core is a regulated step in infection that may be an attractive target for pharmacologic intervention.
Journal ArticleDOI
House-to-house human movement drives dengue virus transmission
Steven T. Stoddard,Steven T. Stoddard,Brett M. Forshey,Amy C. Morrison,Valerie A. Paz-Soldan,Gonzalo M. Vazquez-Prokopec,Gonzalo M. Vazquez-Prokopec,Helvio Astete,Robert C. Reiner,Robert C. Reiner,Stalin Vilcarromero,John P. Elder,Eric S. Halsey,Tadeusz J. Kochel,Uriel Kitron,Uriel Kitron,Thomas W. Scott,Thomas W. Scott +17 more
TL;DR: It is argued that reexamination of existing paradigms regarding the spatiotemporal dynamics of DENV and other vector-borne pathogens, especially the importance of human movement, will lead to improvements in disease prevention.
Journal ArticleDOI
Arboviral Etiologies of Acute Febrile Illnesses in Western South America, 2000–2007
Brett M. Forshey,Carolina Guevara,V. Alberto Laguna-Torres,Manuel Cespedes,Jorge Vargas,Alberto Gianella,Efrain Vallejo,Cesar Madrid,Nicolas Aguayo,Eduardo Gotuzzo,Victor Suarez,Ana Morales,Luis Beingolea,Nora Reyes,Juan Perez,Monica Negrete,Claudio Rocha,Amy C. Morrison,Amy C. Morrison,Kevin L. Russell,Patrick J. Blair,James G. Olson,Tadeusz J. Kochel +22 more
TL;DR: The described arboviruses associated with acute undifferentiated febrile illness in participating clinics in four countries in South America and detailed epidemiological analysis in Iquitos, Peru are provided to provide a better understanding of the geographic range of arbaviruses in SouthAmerica.
Journal ArticleDOI
Small-Molecule Inhibition of Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 Replication by Specific Targeting of the Final Step of Virion Maturation
Jing Zhou,Xiong Yuan,David J. Dismuke,Brett M. Forshey,Christopher A. Lundquist,Kuo Hsiung Lee,Christopher Aiken,Chin Ho Chen +7 more
TL;DR: Investigation of the mechanism by which 3-O-3′,3′-dimethylsuccinyl}-betulinic acid inhibits HIV-1 replication indicates that DSB specifically protects the CA-p2 cleavage site from processing by the viral protease during virion maturation, thereby revealing a novel mechanism for pharmacologic inhibition of HIV- 1 replication.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiology of dengue virus in Iquitos, Peru 1999 to 2005: interepidemic and epidemic patterns of transmission.
Amy C. Morrison,Sharon L. Minnick,Claudio Rocha,Brett M. Forshey,Steven T. Stoddard,Arthur Getis,Dana A. Focks,Kevin L. Russell,James G. Olson,Patrick J. Blair,Douglas M. Watts,Moises Sihuincha,Thomas W. Scott,Tadeusz J. Kochel +13 more
TL;DR: Neighborhood-specific baseline seroprevalence rates were not predictive of geographic incidence patterns prior to the DENV-3 introduction, but were closely mirrored during the invasion of this serotype.
