All optical wavelength conversion by SOA's in a Mach-Zehnder configuration
TL;DR: In this paper, the extinction ratio was measured for the converted signal compared to the input signal implying signal regeneration as well as wavelength conversion using SOA in a Mach-Zehnder configuration.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of a WDM packet switch with improved performance under bursty traffic conditions due to tuneable wavelength converters
TL;DR: In this paper, the use of tuneable wavelength converters is recognized as essential for reducing the complexity of photonic wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) packet switches and a large throughput of the photonic packet switches is obtained and very importantly this is achieved while keeping the number of gates needed to realize the space switches nearly constant.
Journal ArticleDOI
All-optical wavelength conversion at bit rates above 10 Gb/s using semiconductor optical amplifiers
C. G. Joergensen,S.L. Danielsen,K.E. Stubkjaer,Michael Schilling,K. Daub,Pierre Doussiere,F. Pommerau,P.B. Hansen,Henrik N. Poulsen,A. Kloch,M. Vaa,B. Mikkelsen,E. Lach,Gert Laube,Wilfried Idler,Klaus Wunstel +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess the prospects for high-speed all-optical wavelength conversion using the simple optical interaction with the gain in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) via the interband carrier recombination.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hunziker,H. Melchior,A. Mcguire,F. Ratovelomanana,N. Vodjdani +31 more
TL;DR: The obtained good results in terms of bit error rate and hardware integration are reported, showing that ATM switches are feasible with state of-the-art optical technology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optical packet switched network layer without optical buffers
TL;DR: A configuration for a packet switched wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) network including a simple wavelength assignment scheme for data packets is proposed, which reduces the need for optical buffers and when more than 11 WDM channels are used for transmitting data in the optical domain the buffers can be avoided.
