Journal ArticleDOI
Lung as a Niche for Hematopoietic Progenitors
Isabella T. Borges,Isadora F. G. Sena,Patrick O. Azevedo,Julia P. Andreotti,Viviani M. Almeida,Ana Luiza Bittencourt Paiva,Gabryella S P Santos,Daniel A. P. Guerra,Pedro H.D.M. Prazeres,Luiza Lousado Mesquita,Luanny Souto de Barros Silva,Caroline Leonel,Akiva Mintz,Alexander Birbrair,Alexander Birbrair +14 more
TL;DR: It is revealed that lung megakaryocytes can completely reconstitute platelet counts in the blood in mice with thrombocytopenia and that hematopoietic progenitors, with capacity to repopulate the bone marrow after irradiation, are present in the lungs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ablation of sensory nerves favours melanoma progression.
Pedro H.D.M. Prazeres,Caroline Leonel,Walison N. Silva,Beatriz G S Rocha,Gabryella S P Santos,Alinne C. Costa,Caroline C. Picoli,Isadora F. G. Sena,William Antonio Gonçalves,Mariana S. Vieira,Pedro A C Costa,Leda Maria de Castro C. Campos,Miriam T. P. Lopes,Marcos R. Costa,Rodrigo R. Resende,Thiago M. Cunha,Akiva Mintz,Alexander Birbrair,Alexander Birbrair +18 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that sensory innervations counteract melanoma progression, and provides a novel target in the tumour microenvironment for therapeutic benefit in cancer patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Staphylococcus epidermidis role in the skin microenvironment.
Caroline Leonel,Isadora F. G. Sena,Walison N. Silva,Pedro H.D.M. Prazeres,Gabriel Fernandes,Pamela Mancha Agresti,Mariana Martins Drumond,Akiva Mintz,Vasco Azevedo,Alexander Birbrair,Alexander Birbrair +10 more
TL;DR: Recent advances in the understanding of the microbiota in the skin microenvironment are evaluated and commensal Staphylococcus epidermidis‐induced CD8+ T cells induce re‐epithelization of the skin after injury, accelerating wound closure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role of Schwann cells in cutaneous wound healing
Walison N. Silva,Caroline Leonel,Pedro H.D.M. Prazeres,Isadora F. G. Sena,Daniel A. P. Guerra,Debora Heller,Ivana Márcia Alves Diniz,Vitor Fortuna,Akiva Mintz,Alexander Birbrair,Alexander Birbrair +10 more
TL;DR: Recent advances in the understanding of Schwann cells roles in the skin microenvironment are summarized and evaluated.
