Journal ArticleDOI
Importance of diagnostics in epidemic and pandemic preparedness.
Cassandra Kelly-Cirino,John N. Nkengasong,Hannah Kettler,Isabelle Tongio,Françoise Gay-Andrieu,Camille Escadafal,Peter Piot,Rosanna W. Peeling,Renuka Gadde,Catharina Boehme +9 more
TL;DR: Specific diagnostic challenges presented by selected priority pathogens most likely to cause future epidemics are described and the establishment of a global forum to bring together representatives from all key stakeholders required for the response to develop a coordinated implementation plan is recommended.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnosing sexually transmitted infections in resource-constrained settings: challenges and ways forward.
Teodora Wi,Francis Ndowa,Cecilia Ferreyra,Cassandra Kelly-Cirino,Melanie M Taylor,Igor Toskin,James Kiarie,Nancy Santesso,Magnus Unemo +8 more
TL;DR: The diagnostic accuracy of syndromic case management and existing point-of-care tests, including those in the pipeline, to diagnose STIs in resource‐constrained settings are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of Clostridium botulinum Serotype E Strains by Using Multilocus Sequence Typing, Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism, Variable-Number Tandem-Repeat Analysis, and Botulinum Neurotoxin Gene Sequencing
Thomas E. Macdonald,Charles H. Helma,Yulin Shou,Yolanda E. Valdez,Lawrence O. Ticknor,Brian T. Foley,Stephen W. Davis,George E. Hannett,Cassandra Kelly-Cirino,Jason R. Barash,Stephen S. Arnon,Miia Lindström,Hannu Korkeala,Leonard A. Smith,Theresa J. Smith,Karen K. Hill +15 more
TL;DR: The findings suggest that the C. botulinum serotype E strains result from the targeted insertion of the bont/E gene into genetically conserved bacteria and recombination events (not random mutations) within bont /E result in toxin variants or subtypes within strains.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rapid diagnostic tests for determining dengue serostatus: a systematic review and key informant interviews
Robert Luo,Noah Fongwen,Cassandra Kelly-Cirino,Eva Harris,Annelies Wilder-Smith,Rosanna W. Peeling +5 more
TL;DR: Although current dengue IgG RDTs have shown reasonable performance compared with laboratory-based tests in secondary infection, additional research is needed to determine how R DTs would perform in relevant populations targeted for vaccination.
Journal ArticleDOI
Immunity certification for COVID-19: ethical considerations.
Teck Chuan Voo,Andreas Reis,Beatriz Thomé,Calvin W. L. Ho,Clarence C. Tam,Cassandra Kelly-Cirino,Ezekiel J. Emanuel,Juan Pablo Beca,Katherine Littler,Maxwell J. Smith,Michael W. Parker,Nancy E. Kass,Nina Gobat,Ruipeng Lei,Ross E.G. Upshur,Samia Hurst,Sody Munsaka +16 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the main considerations for the ethical acceptability of immunity certification to exempt individuals from restrictive measures during the COVID-19 pandemic during the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak.
