Principles and Practice of Structural Equation Modeling (2nd ed.)

The present study conceptualizes a destination branding model that reflects the process of tourist decision making. The model integrates key sequential concepts such as brand knowledge, brand trust, and brand loyalty. Destination brand knowledge is further defined by its constituents of brand awareness, cognitive brand image, and affective brand image. The concept of brand trust is defined in the context of risk and expectations. Brand loyalty is operationalized as behavioral intention to visit/revisit or make a referral. The conceptual model results from the systheses of literature in the fields of general branding and marketing, psychology, sociology, and consmer behavior, as well as tourism. Both theorectical and empirical works were consulted in structuring the model and specification of its various concepts. Theoretical contributions of the model are discussed.

Brand knowledge, trust and loyalty - a conceptual model of destination branding

The global cruise industry is the fastest growing sector in the entire leisure market. Due to the limited development of the Chinese cruise sector and government controls on outbound travel, the cruise, especially the outbound cruise, is a new concept in China. Few studies have addressed Chinese consumers’ perceptions of cruises. This study aimed to explore the preferences of potential Chinese cruisers and their expectations, motivations, and intentions in relation to taking an outbound cruise. This study also proposed and tested a conceptual framework: the Expectation, Motivation, and Intention (EMI) Model. Data were collected in Beijing and Shanghai; 242 valid responses were received. The results partially supported the proposed model. The theoretical and practical contributions of the study are discussed.

A research instrument was developed to identify attitudes of Korean college students towards quick-service, family-style, and fine dining restaurants. Of the 350 questionnaires distributed, 292 (83%) were returned and usable. Respondents had the most positive attitudes toward fine dining restaurants, followed by quick service and family-style restaurants. Family-style restaurants, however, were most frequently patronized by respondents for their regular meals. “Good taste” was found to be the determining factor in selecting a restaurant for regular meals among Korean college students. Implications for Korean restaurant operators, researchers, and restaurant operators in other countries were provided.

Attitudes of Korean College Students Towards Quick-Service, Family-Style, and Fine Dining Restaurants

Purpose – This study aims to discover how the patterns and effects of managerial ties differ among state‐owned, domestic private, and foreign firms.Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected through in‐depth interviews with 15 top executives of economy hotel chains headquartered in five cities in China. The typical qualitative data analysis procedures, such as voice‐recording, transcribing, coding, and pattern‐matching, were strictly followed.Findings – Results indicate that managers in firms of different ownership types use different network tie combinations and differ in the extent to which they can benefit from managerial ties. For example, entrepreneurs in state‐owned enterprises thought strong ties were more important than weak ties and political ties were more important than business ties, while those in domestic private firms and firms founded by Chinese using foreign funding benefited more from business ties.Originality/value – The study contributes to both entrepreneurship and social netwo...
