Multi-phased uplift of the southern margin of the Central Anatolian plateau, Turkey: A record of tectonic and upper mantle processes
Taylor F. Schildgen,Domenico Cosentino,Bodo Bookhagen,Samuel Niedermann,Cengiz Yıldırım,Helmut Echtler,Hella Wittmann,Manfred R. Strecker +7 more
TL;DR: A detailed history of surface uplift along the southern margin of the Central Anatolian plateau from the Late Miocene to the present can be found in the Mut Basin, southern Turkey as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Linking slab break-off, Hellenic trench retreat, and uplift of the Central and Eastern Anatolian plateaus
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used tomography, deep seismicity, and gravity data to identify probable mechanisms of Anatolian Plateau growth and showed that the changeover from shortening to extension along the southern margin of Central Anatolia that is coeval with the start of uplift can be most easily associated with oceanic slab breakoff and tearing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Surface expression of eastern Mediterranean slab dynamics: Neogene topographic and structural evolution of the southwest margin of the Central Anatolian Plateau, Turkey
Taylor F. Schildgen,Domenico Cosentino,Antonio Caruso,Robert Buchwaldt,Cengiz Yıldırım,Samuel A. Bowring,Bora Rojay,Helmut Echtler,Manfred R. Strecker +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the age of uplifted marine sediments at the southwest plateau margin at 1.5 km elevation to <7.17 Ma and regional lithostratigraphic correlations imply that the age is <6.7 Ma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Permafrost conditions in the Mediterranean region since the Last Glaciation
Marc Oliva,Manja Žebre,M. Guglielmin,Philip D. Hughes,Attila Çiner,Gonçalo Vieira,Xavier Bodin,Nuria Andrés,Renato R. Colucci,Cristina García-Hernández,Carla Mora,Jordi Nofre,David Palacios,Augusto Pérez-Alberti,Adriano Ribolini,Jesús Ruiz-Fernández,Mehmet Sarikaya,Enrique Serrano,Petru Urdea,M. Valcárcel,Jamie Woodward,Cengiz Yıldırım +21 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the distribution and evolution of permafrost in the Mediterranean region considering five time periods: Last Glaciation, deglaciation, Holocene, Little Ice Age (LIA) and present-day.
Journal ArticleDOI
Geological and geomorphologic asymmetry across the rupture zones of the 1943 and 1944 earthquakes on the North Anatolian Fault: Possible signals for preferred earthquake propagation direction
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the structural asymmetry of the North Anatolian Fault (NAF) with respect to the active trace of the NAF along the 1943 and 1944 sections and found that the south side of the 1943 rupture has faster seismic velocity at seismogenic depth than the north side.
