Guidelines for the good practice of surface wave analysis: a product of the InterPACIFIC project
Sebastiano Foti,Fabrice Hollender,Flora Garofalo,Dario Albarello,Michael Asten,Pierre-Yves Bard,Cesare Comina,Cã©cile Cornou,Brady R. Cox,Giuseppe Di Giulio,Thomas Forbriger,Koichi Hayashi,Enrico Lunedei,Antony Martin,Diego Mercerat,Matthias Ohrnberger,Valerio Poggi,F. Renalier,Deborah Sicilia,Valentina Socco +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present guidelines for the acquisition and analysis of surface wave data by giving some basic principles and specific suggestions related to the most common situations, which are primarily targeted to non-expert users approaching surface wave testing, but can be useful to specialists in the field as a general reference.
Journal ArticleDOI
Non-uniqueness in surface-wave inversion and consequences on seismic site response analyses
TL;DR: In this paper, a Monte Carlo approach for the inversion problem has been used to obtain a set of equivalent shear-wave velocity models, which are then used to evaluate the seismic response with a conventional one-dimensional analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reliability of VS,30 Evaluation from Surface-Wave Tests
Cesare Comina,Cesare Comina,Sebastiano Foti,Sebastiano Foti,D. Boiero,D. Boiero,L. V. Socco,L. V. Socco +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the reliability of surface-wave tests for the evaluation of VS,30 in seismic site characterization is assessed with respect to both uncertainty and accuracy, focusing on the implications of solution nonuniqueness in inverse problems; only the inversion uncertainty is considered within this work, omitting other possible issues such as nontrivial geological settings (e.g., lateral variations) or the influence of different processing procedures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Borehole thermal energy storage (BTES). First results from the injection phase of a living lab in Torino (NW Italy)
TL;DR: In this paper, a field scale BTES living lab was built up nearby Torino (Northern Italy) within unsaturated alluvial deposits, where approximately 9.1 GJ were transferred to the ground during the first year, raising the undisturbed temperature by 2°C.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of thermal treatment on physical and mechanical properties of Valdieri Marble - NW Italy
Federico Vagnon,Chiara Colombero,Fabrizio Colombo,Cesare Comina,Anna Maria Ferrero,Giuseppe Mandrone,Sergio Vinciguerra +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of high temperatures as a degrading factor of rock materials is investigated, and the increase of crack density with temperature and the consequent porosity increases were found to be the main causes of degradation of physical and mechanical properties.
