Carbon nanomaterials are receiving worldwide attention because of their multi-faceted superiority in thermal conductivity, flame retardancy, mechanical stability, electrical conductivity, and biocompatibility. In this review, a survey of the literature on extending performance of epoxy resins based on carbon nanomaterials is presented. The structure-performance relationships for different carbon nanomaterials modified epoxy are closely analyzed. The performance extension in mechanical, electrical, thermal conductivity, flame retardancy, antidegradation, and tribological properties of epoxy are reviewed in detail. Other application areas including biocompatibility, biodegradability, gas barrier properties, shape memory, and electromagnetic interference shielding are touched. The challenges and opportunities in carbon nanomaterials functionalized epoxy composites are also discussed.

Aligning multilayer graphene flakes with an external electric field to improve multifunctional properties of epoxy nanocomposites

Electrically conductive composites comprising polymers and graphene are extremely versatile and have a wide range of potential applications. The conductivity of these composites depends on the choice of polymer matrix, the type of graphene filler, the processing methodology, and any post-production treatments. In this review, we discuss the progress in graphene-polymer composites for electrical applications. Graphene filler types are reviewed, the progress in modelling these composites is outlined, the current optimal composites are presented, and the example of strain sensors is used to demonstrate their application.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein elektrisches oder elektronisches Bauteil mit einer Verkapselungs- und/oder Unterfull-Masse, aufgrund derer der Warmehaushalt des Bauteils besser regulierbar ist. Dies insbesondere dadurch, weil als Kuhlelement ein PCM in einer elastomeren Matrix eingesetzt wird.

The application of chopped-fiber reinforced polymers in screwed connections at high temperatures raises the question of creep under long-term loading. While up to now thermoplastic materials have mainly been the focus of attention when it comes to creep, this paper shows that thermoset carbon-fiber SMCs (sheet mold compounds) can also be affected by this phenomenon. Screwed connections were investigated regarding their loss of preload force at 120 °C ambient temperature. Additionally, strain-time diagrams were recorded at different stress levels at 120 °C in a creep test setup of a universal testing machine by using optical strain tracking of SMC coupons. The transverse modulus under compression in thickness direction was determined in the same test setup. For data application within a FEA (finite element analysis) software power law curves according to Norton-Bailey creep law were fitted in the strain-time graphs. The applicability of the obtained creep law was crosschecked with a test carried out on the loss of preload force of a screwed connection. The developed simulative methodology offers the possibility to simulate various mounting situations of the bolted connection and to investigate measures against the loss of preload force easily. A promising possibility to limit the loss of preload force due to creep was simulatively evaluated.

Creep-Induced Screw Preload Loss of Carbon-Fiber Sheet Molding Compound at Elevated Temperature

The invention relates to a turbine blade (1) of rotor blading or guide blading of a turbine stage, in particular of a turbine output stage, of a steam turbine, wherein at least sections of the turbine blade (1) are composed of metal or fiber composite material, wherein at least in sections a highly elastic elastomeric coating (3) is arranged on the upper blade side and/or in the turbine blade (1), and at least in sections a metal coat (4) is provided on the upper blade surface, in particular on the highly elastic elastomeric coating (4), wherein the metal coat (4) is a thin, energy-absorbing metal coating. The invention further relates to rotor blading or guide blading of a turbine stage, in particular the output stage blading, of a steam turbine, which is characterized in that the rotor blading or guide blading comprises a plurality of turbine blades (1) designed in this way.
