Desminopathies: pathology and mechanisms
TL;DR: This review summarizes the currently available data on the epidemiology, clinical phenotypes, myopathology, and genetics of desminopathies, and provides an overview on the expression, filament formation processes, biomechanical properties, post-translational modifications, interaction partners, subcellular localization, and functions of wild-type and mutant desmin as well as desmin-related cell and animal models.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pathological consequences of VCP mutations on human striated muscle
Christian U. Hübbers,Christoph S. Clemen,Kristina Kesper,Annett Böddrich,Andreas Hofmann,Outi Kämäräinen,Karen Tolksdorf,Maria Stumpf,Julia Reichelt,Udo Roth,Sabine Krause,Giles D. J. Watts,Virginia Kimonis,Mike P. Wattjes,Jens Reimann,Dietmar Rudolf Thal,Katharina Biermann,Bernd O. Evert,Hanns Lochmüller,Erich E. Wanker,Benedikt Schoser,Angelika A. Noegel,Rolf Schröder +22 more
TL;DR: The search for putative ligands to the R93 and R155 cavities resulted in the identification of cyclic sugar compounds with high binding scores, which provide a novel link to VCP carbohydrate interactions in the complex pathology of IBMPFD.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Power of Human Protective Modifiers: PLS3 and CORO1C Unravel Impaired Endocytosis in Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Rescue SMA Phenotype
Seyyedmohsen Hosseinibarkooie,Miriam Peters,Laura Torres-Benito,Raphael H. Rastetter,Kristina Hupperich,Andrea Hoffmann,Natalia Mendoza-Ferreira,Anna Kaczmarek,Eva Janzen,Janine Milbradt,Tobias Lamkemeyer,Frank Rigo,C. Frank Bennett,Christoph Guschlbauer,Ansgar Büschges,Matthias Hammerschmidt,Markus Riessland,Min Jeong Kye,Christoph S. Clemen,Brunhilde Wirth +19 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the combinatorial effect of suboptimal SMN antisense oligonucleotide treatment and PLS3 overexpression-a situation resembling the human condition in asymptomatic SMN1-deleted individuals-rescues survival and motoric abilities in a severe SMA mouse model.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coronin proteins as multifunctional regulators of the cytoskeleton and membrane trafficking
TL;DR: Recent data is reviewed providing more insight into molecular mechanisms underlying the regulation of F‐actin structures, cytoskeletal rearrangements and intracellular membrane transport by coronin proteins and the way that they might link cytoskeleton with trafficking in development and disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Accelerated clearance of Plasmodium-infected erythrocytes in sickle cell trait and annexin-A7 deficiency.
Philipp A. Lang,Ravi S. Kasinathan,Verena Brand,Christophe Duranton,Camelia Lang,Saisudha Koka,Ekaterina Shumilina,Daniela S. Kempe,Valerie Tanneur,Ahmad Akel,Karl S. Lang,Michael Föller,Jürgen F. J. Kun,Peter G. Kremsner,Sebastian Wesselborg,Stefan Laufer,Christoph S. Clemen,Claudia Herr,Angelika A. Noegel,Thomas Wieder,Erich Gulbins,Florian Lang,Stephan M. Huber +22 more
TL;DR: Ins infection of erythrocytes from human sickle cell trait carriers with ring stages of P. falciparum led to significantly enhanced PGE2 formation, Ca2+ permeability, annexin-A7 degradation, phosphatidylserine exposure at the cell surface, and clearance by macrophages.
