Transparent optical packet switching: the European ACTS KEOPS project approach
C. Guillemot,Monique Renaud,P. Gambini,Christopher Janz,Ivan Andonovic,R. Bauknecht,Bruno Bostica,Marco Burzio,Franco Callegati,Maurizio Casoni,Dominique Chiaroni,Fabrice Clérot,S.L. Danielsen,Francois Dorgeuille,Arnaud Dupas,Andre Franzen,P.B. Hansen,David K. Hunter,A. Kloch,R. Krahenbuhl,Bruno Lavigne,A. Le Corre,Carla Raffaelli,Michael Schilling,Jean-Claude Simon,Libero Zucchelli +25 more
TL;DR: The work carried out under the European ACTS KEOPS (KEys to Optical Packet Switching) project, centering on the definition, development and assessment of optical packet switching and routing networks capable of providing transparency to the payload bit rate, is reviewed in this article.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transparent optical packet switching: network architecture and demonstrators in the KEOPS project
P. Gambini,Monique Renaud,Christian Guillemot,Franco Callegati,Ivan Andonovic,Bruno Bostica,Dominique Chiaroni,G. Corazza,S.L. Danielsen,Philippe Gravey,P.B. Hansen,M. Henry,Christopher Janz,A. Kloch,R. Krahenbuhl,Carla Raffaelli,Michael Schilling,A. Talneau,Libero Zucchelli +18 more
TL;DR: The feasibility of the KEOPS concept is assessed by modeling, laboratory experiments, and testbed implementation of optical packet switching nodes and network/node interfacing blocks, including a fully equipped demonstrator.
Journal ArticleDOI
40-Gb/s all-optical wavelength conversion, regeneration, and demultiplexing in an SOA-based all-active Mach-Zehnder interferometer
TL;DR: In this article, an all-active SOA-based Mach-Zehnder device, employed as a wavelength converter, is shown capable of improving the OSNR by more than 20 dB at this bit rate, thereby resulting in penalty reduction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Physical and logical validation of a network based on all-optical packet switching systems
D. Chiaroni,Bruno Lavigne,Amaury Jourdan,Michel Sotom,L. Hamon,Corinne Chauzat,Jean-Claude Jacquinot,A. Barroso,Thierry Zami,Francois Dorgeuille,Christopher Janz,J.-Y. Emery,Emmanuel Grard,Monique Renaud +13 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the structure of the packet-switching node and the physical and logical analysis of the network including more than 40 network sections based on 160 Gb/s throughput optical packet switching nodes could operate error free.
Journal ArticleDOI
Design optimization of all-active Mach-Zehnder wavelength converters
Beatrice Dagens,Christopher Janz,D. Leclerc,V. Verdrager,F. Poingt,L. Guillemot,Fabienne Gaborit,D. Ottenwalder +7 more
TL;DR: An integrated all-active Mach-Zehnder wavelength converter, optimized for 10-Gb/s counterpropagative operation, is described, and the predicted performance parameters confirmed by experimental results.
