Determining the Probability of Project Cost Overruns

TL;DR: The statistical characteristics of cost overruns experienced from contract award in 276 Australian construction and engineering projects were analyzed in this article, where the skewness and kurtosis values of the cost overrun are computed to determine if the empirical distribution of the data follows a normal distribution.
Journal ArticleDOI

Future Proofing PPPs: Life-Cycle Performance Measurement and Building Information Modelling

TL;DR: In this paper, a life-cycle approach to evaluate public-private partnership (PPP) projects is proposed to evaluate their performance and ensure value for money that is delivered to the public sector.
Journal ArticleDOI

Overruns in transportation infrastructure projects

TL;DR: In this article, the statistical characteristics of rework and cost and schedule overruns that are experienced from a project's contract award for 58 Australian transportation infrastructure projects are analyzed. But the best fitting distribution is the generalized logistic probability density function, which provides the best overall distribution fit.
Journal ArticleDOI

Praxis of Performance Measurement in Public-Private Partnerships: Moving beyond the Iron Triangle

TL;DR: In this paper, an interpretivist approach that utilized semistructured interviews was undertaken in the State of Western Australia to determine the nature of performance measurement in Australian public-private partnerships (PPPs), and it was revealed that there was a proclivity for performance measurements during design and construction to focus on traditional ex ante and ex post evaluations that were aligned to the conventional iron triangle: time, cost, and quality.
Journal ArticleDOI

Determining the probability distribution of rework costs in construction and engineering projects

TL;DR: In this paper, the statistical characteristics of rework costs experienced from contract award in 276 construction and engineering projects were analyzed and a Generalised Pareto probability function was found to provide the best overall distribution fit for re-work costs.
