Synaptic resilience is associated with maintained cognition during ageing
Declan James Peter King,Jamie Toombs,Xin He,Owen Dando,Judith Okely,Makis Tzioras,Jamie Rose,Ciaran Gunn,Jane Tulloch,Douglas J. Lamont,Adele M. Taylor,Sarah E. Harris,Paul Redmond,Simon R. Cox,Christopher M. Henstridge,Ian J. Deary,Colin Smith,Tara L. Spires-Jones +17 more
TL;DR: Test the hypothesis that resilience to molecular changes in synapses contribute to healthy cognitive ageing by examining post-mortem brain from people in mid-life, healthy ageing, and Alzheimer's disease and finds efficient synaptic networks without pathological protein accumulation may contribute to maintained cognition during ageing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neurogranin in Alzheimer's disease and ageing: A human post-mortem study
T Saunders,Ciaran Gunn,Kaj Blennow,Hlin Kvartsberg,Henrik Zetterberg,Susan D. Shenkin,Simon R. Cox,Ian J. Deary,Colin Smith,Declan James Peter King,Tara L. Spires-Jones +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors investigated the link between synaptic protein changes in CSF and brain and found that increased CSF neurogranin levels are associated with cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease.
