Journal ArticleDOI
Mercury speciation in fluorescent lamps by thermal release analysis.
TL;DR: Mercury speciation in phosphorus powder matrices and soda lime glass waste from new and spent fluorescent lamp wastes has been studied by thermo-desorption/atomic absorption spectrometry (TDAAS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), cold vapor-atomic absorption (CV-AAS) and atomic emission spectrometer/inductively coupled plasma (ICP/AES).
Journal ArticleDOI
Mercury speciation in contaminated soils by thermal release analysis
TL;DR: In this paper, temperature controlled continuous heating of the samples in a furnace coupled to an atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) was used to identify different redox states of Hg-species through their characteristic releasing temperature ranges.
Journal ArticleDOI
How humic substances dominate mercury geochemistry in contaminated floodplain soils and sediments
Dirk Wallschläger,Madhukar V. M. Desai,Markus Spengler,Cláudia Carvalhinho Windmöller,Rolf-Dieter Wilken +4 more
TL;DR: In this article, the interaction of mercury and humic substances (hs) was studied in floodplain topsoils and surface sediments of the contaminated German river Elbe and it was shown that Humic substances exert a dominant influence on several important parallel geochemical pathways of Hg, including binding, transformation, and transport processes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Speciation and quantification of mercury in Oxisol, Ultisol, and Spodosol from Amazon (Manaus, Brazil)
Cláudia Magalhães do Valle,Genilson Pereira Santana,Rodinei Augusti,Fernando Barboza Egreja Filho,Cláudia Carvalhinho Windmöller +4 more
TL;DR: In this article, the content and distribution of Hg in soils from Amazon areas not impacted by gold mining activities were determined in three different types of soils and the role of physico-chemical and mineralogical characteristics on Hg content were also studied.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantification and speciation of mercury in soils from the Tripuí Ecological Station, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Helena Eugênia Leonhardt Palmieri,Hermínio Arias Nalini,L. V. Leonel,Cláudia Carvalhinho Windmöller,Regis Costa Santos,Walter de Brito +5 more
TL;DR: Mercury distribution in soil profiles showed that Hg was homogeneously distributed throughout the depths at most sites, and Pearson's correlation confirmed that mercury is associated with organic matter and sulfur and possibly with sulfur-bearing organic matter in most samples.
