Critical Chloride Content in Reinforced Concrete: A Review

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the state-of-the-art in the area of critical chloride thresholding of reinforced concrete is presented, highlighting the strong need for a practice-related test method, and focusing especially on experimental procedures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Relationship between concrete resistivity and corrosion rate – A literature review

TL;DR: In this article, the relationship between corrosion rate and concrete resistivity is investigated and the influence of factors including the experimental setup, the concrete mix design and the cause of corrosion is evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chloride induced reinforcement corrosion: Electrochemical monitoring of initiation stage and chloride threshold values

TL;DR: In this article, reinforcement steel embedded in six different concrete mixes was exposed to chloride by wetting/drying cycles and various parameters were continuously monitored during more than 1 year, and the most dominant influencing parameter was the steel/concrete interface since corrosion initiated on the lower side of the rebar (with respect to casting direction).
Journal ArticleDOI

Chloride induced reinforcement corrosion : Rate limiting step of early pitting corrosion

TL;DR: In this article, the depassivation process of reinforcement steel in concrete is characterized by frequent measurements of corrosion potential, polarisation resistance, and macrocell currents when shortcircuiting the working electrode with additional cathode surface.
Journal ArticleDOI

Potentiometric determination of the chloride ion activity in cement based materials

TL;DR: In this article, the performance of ion selective electrodes (ISEs) was investigated both in alkaline solutions and embedded in mortar, and the Ag/AgCl electrodes used in this work showed Nernstian behaviour with a slope of −59 −1 −1 1/mV per decade and a detection limit for chloride ions below 10−2 −2 ǫ−3 even at pH close to 14; the selectivity coefficient for hydroxide interference was estimated at $$ k
