Fission-fusion dynamics: new research frameworks
Filippo Aureli,Colleen M. Schaffner,Christophe Boesch,Simon K. Bearder,Josep Call,Colin A. Chapman,Richard C. Connor,Anthony Di Fiore,Robin I. M. Dunbar,Robin I. M. Dunbar,S. Peter Henzi,Kay E. Holekamp,Amanda H. Korstjens,Robert Layton,Phyllis C. Lee,Julia Lehmann,Joseph H. Manson,Gabriel Ramos-Fernández,Karen B. Strier,Carel P. van Schaik +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a new framework for integrating current knowledge on fission-fusion dynamics emerged from a fundamental rethinking of the term fission fusion away from its current general use as a label for a particular modal type of social system.
Journal ArticleDOI
Collective decision-making and fission–fusion dynamics: a conceptual framework
Cédric Sueur,Andrew J. King,Larissa Conradt,Gerald Kerth,David D. Lusseau,Claudia Mettke-Hofmann,Colleen M. Schaffner,Leah L. Williams,Dietmar Zinner,Filippo Aureli +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a conceptual framework based on the outcome of a small-group discussion INCORE meeting is presented to understand how the degree of uncertainty in the environment shapes social flexibility and therefore the types of decisions individuals make in different social settings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence that zoo visitors influence HPA activity in spider monkeys (Ateles geoffroyii rufiventris)
TL;DR: This study supports previous behavioural research that visitors have a meaningful impact on primates in zoos and increases the understanding of visitor effect by assessing the relationship between absolute visitor numbers and an aspect of the animals’ physiology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Raiding parties of male spider monkeys: insights into human warfare?
TL;DR: The first cases ever witnessed of raiding parties of male spider monkeys, a species expected to show such a behavioral tendency, are reported, to support the notion that lethal raiding is a convergent response to similar socio-ecological conditions.

TL;DR: In this paper, a rethinking of the term "fission-fusion" away from its current general use as a label for a particular modal type of social system was proposed.
