Journal ArticleDOI
Recent geodetic unrest at Santorini Caldera, Greece
Andrew V. Newman,Stathis C. Stiros,Lujia Feng,Lujia Feng,Panos Psimoulis,Panos Psimoulis,Fanis Moschas,Vasso Saltogianni,Yan Jiang,Costas Papazachos,Dimitris Panagiotopoulos,E. Karagianni,Domenikos A. Vamvakaris +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, a series of spherical source models show the source is not migrating significantly, but remains about 4 km depth and has expanded by 14 million m3 since inflation began, and a distributed sill model is also tested, showing a possible N-S elongation of the volumetric source.
Journal ArticleDOI
High-resolution surface wave tomography beneath the Aegean-Anatolia region: constraints on upper-mantle structure
G. Salaün,Helle Pedersen,Anne Paul,Véronique Farra,Hayrullah Karabulut,Denis Hatzfeld,Costas Papazachos,Dean M. Childs,Catherine Péquegnat +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, a 3D shear wave velocity model of the upper mantle is obtained by inversion of fundamental-mode Rayleigh wave phase velocity maps for periods between 20 and 195 s.
Journal ArticleDOI
Properties of the 2003 Lefkada, Ionian Islands, Greece, Earthquake Seismic Sequence and Seismicity Triggering
TL;DR: In this article, a dense temporary seismic network was installed one day after and accurately located hundreds of aftershocks that defined in detail the main rupture, as well as the activity distribution in the neighboring fault segments.
Journal ArticleDOI
The 2001 Skyros, Northern Aegean, Greece, earthquake sequence: off - fault aftershocks, tectonic implications, and seismicity triggering
Vassilios Karakostas,Eleftheria Papadimitriou,G. F. Karakaisis,Costas Papazachos,Emmanuel M. Scordilis,George Vargemezis,Elina Aidona +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the co-seismic stress changes associated with the main shock are computed and the areas of static stress increases are correlated with the aftershock spatial distribution, aiming to contribute to the understanding of the seismotectonic properties in this area.
Journal ArticleDOI
Accelerating Seismic Crustal Deformation in the Southern Aegean Area
TL;DR: In this paper, a region of intense accelerating seismic crustal deformation has been identified in the southwestern part of the Hellenic arc (broader area of Cythera island) using a detailed parametric grid search of the broader southern Aegean area for accelerating energy release behavior.
