Long-term albumin administration in decompensated cirrhosis (ANSWER): an open-label randomised trial.

Paolo Caraceni, +92 more
- 16 Jun 2018 -
TL;DR: Long-term HA administration prolongs overall survival and might act as a disease modifying treatment in patients with decompensated cirrhosis in this trial.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of antioxidants on postprandial oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction in subjects with impaired glucose tolerance and Type 2 diabetes

TL;DR: The results show that the abnormal changes in oxidative-reductive balance parameters are paralleled by similar changes in markers of endothelial dysfunction and inflammation at 4 h after ingestion of a fatty meal, which suggests that the timing of antioxidant supplementation has an important role in endothelium protection in healthy and pre-diabetic subjects.
Journal ArticleDOI

On-treatment serum albumin level can guide long-term treatment in patients with cirrhosis and uncomplicated ascites

Paolo Caraceni, +92 more
TL;DR: Baseline serum albumin per se should not guide the decision to start albumin therapy and could be used as a guide in order to improve the use of albumin, 4.0 g/dL being the target threshold to be pursued.
Journal Article

Ultrasound in diagnosis of superior mesenteric artery syndrome

TL;DR: US power colour Doppler imaging that is a rapid, repeatable, and non invasive, low cost and easy to perform diagnostic procedure, is useful in epidemiological screening of reduced aorto-mesenteric angle to diagnose suspected cases of SMA syndrome in patients with inexplicable abdominal pain.
Journal ArticleDOI

Long-term use of human albumin for the treatment of ascites in patients with hepatic cirrhosis: The interim analysis of the ANSWER study

TL;DR: The newly proposed CTP class 0 identifies a different subgroup of patients with a better prognosis, alsowhen applied in a European cohort, where HCV aetiology is predominant.
