Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiology, clinical course, and outcomes of critically ill adults with COVID-19 in New York City: a prospective cohort study.
Matthew J. Cummings,Matthew R. Baldwin,Darryl Abrams,Samuel D. Jacobson,Benjamin J. Meyer,Elizabeth M. Balough,Justin G. Aaron,Jan Claassen,Le Roy E. Rabbani,Jonathan Hastie,Beth Hochman,John Salazar-Schicchi,Natalie H Yip,Daniel Brodie,Max R. O'Donnell,Max R. O'Donnell +15 more
TL;DR: A prospective observational cohort study on the epidemiology, clinical course, and outcomes of critically ill patients with COVID-19 in New York City and the relation between clinical risk factors, biomarkers, and in-hospital mortality is modelled using Cox proportional hazards regression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation for Severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Alain Combes,David Hajage,Gilles Capellier,Alexandre Demoule,Sylvain Lavoué,Christophe Guervilly,Daniel da Silva,Lara Zafrani,Patrice Tirot,Benoit Veber,Eric Maury,Bruno Levy,Yves Cohen,Christian Richard,Pierre Kalfon,Lila Bouadma,Hossein Mehdaoui,Gaetan Beduneau,Guillaume Lebreton,Laurent Brochard,Niall D. Ferguson,Eddy Fan,Arthur S. Slutsky,Daniel Brodie,Alain Mercat +24 more
TL;DR: Among patients with very severe ARDS, 60‐day mortality was not significantly lower with ECMO than with a strategy of conventional mechanical ventilation that included ECMO as rescue therapy, and fewer cases of ischemic stroke.
Journal ArticleDOI
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: Advances in Diagnosis and Treatment
TL;DR: The Berlin definition of acute respiratory distress syndrome addressed limitations of the American-European Consensus Conference definition, but poor reliability of some criteria may contribute to underrecognition by clinicians.
Journal ArticleDOI
Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation for ARDS in Adults
Daniel Brodie,Matthew Bacchetta +1 more
TL;DR: A 41-year-old woman presents with severe community-acquired pneumococcal pneumonia, and chest radiography reveals diffuse bilateral infiltrates, and hypoxemic respiratory failure develops despite appropriate antibiotic therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support in COVID-19: an international cohort study of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization registry.
Ryan P. Barbaro,Graeme MacLaren,Philip S. Boonstra,Theodore J. Iwashyna,Arthur S. Slutsky,Eddy Fan,Robert H. Bartlett,Joseph E. Tonna,Robert Hyslop,Jeffrey J Fanning,Peter Rycus,Steve J Hyer,Marc Anders,Cara Agerstrand,K. Hryniewicz,Rodrigo Diaz,Roberto Lorusso,Alain Combes,Daniel Brodie +18 more
TL;DR: In patients with COVID-19 who received ECMO, both estimated mortality 90 days after ECMO and mortality in those with a final disposition of death or hospital discharge were less than 40%.
