Journal ArticleDOI
Responses of soil crusting, runoff and erosion to fallowing in the sub-humid and semi-arid regions of West Africa
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of the fallow period on soil physical properties have not been widely documented especially in the drier areas of West Africa, and the authors summarise the fragmented and not readily accessible information on the responses of soil crusting, runoff, water and wind erosion to fallowing in the sub-humid and semi-arid regions of West African.
Journal ArticleDOI
Soil physical degradation and changes in macrofaunal communities in Central Amazon
Eleusa Barros,Michel Grimaldi,Max Sarrazin,Armand Chauvel,Danielle Mitja,Thierry Desjardins,Patrick Lavelle +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a case study was conducted to identify the consequences of altered macrofaunal diversity on soil structure and hydrological processes in Brazilian Amazonia, showing that after forest clearing for pasture establishment, the diversity of soil macroinvertebrates decreased strongly.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of plant diversity on plant biomass production and soil macrofauna in Amazonian pastures
Kam-Rigne Laossi,Sébastien Barot,Deurival Carvalho,Thierry Desjardins,Patrick Lavelle,Marlucia Bonifacio Martins,Danielle Mitja,Ana Carolina Rendeiro,Guillaume Xavier Rousseau,Max Sarrazin,Elena Velasquez,Michel Grimaldi +11 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that fauna density is affected by titter quality and that it is more affected by resource quantity than quality and the importance of nitrogen fixers to ecosystem function is confirmed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ecosystem services of regulation and support in Amazonian pioneer fronts: searching for landscape drivers
Michel Grimaldi,Johan Oszwald,Sylvain Dolédec,María del Pilar Hurtado,Izildinha Souza Miranda,Xavier Arnauld de Sartre,William Santos de Assis,E.R. Castañeda,Thierry Desjardins,Florence Dubs,Edward Guevara,Valéry Gond,Tâmara Thaiz Santana Lima,Raphaël Marichal,Fernando Michelotti,Danielle Mitja,Norberto Cornejo Noronha,Mariana Nascimento Delgado Oliveira,Bertha L Ramírez,Gamaliel Rodriguez,Max Sarrazin,Mário Lopes da Silva,Luiz Gonzaga Silva Costa,Simão Lindoso de Souza,Iran Veiga,Elena Velasquez,Patrick Lavelle,Patrick Lavelle +27 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated how ecosystem services evolve with landscape changes, specifying the contribution of spatial variability in the physical environment and highlighting trade-offs and synergies among ecosystem services.
Journal ArticleDOI
The relationship between pasture degradation and soil properties in the Brazilian amazon: a case study
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the relationship between pasture degradation and some soil properties, to try to identify the most significant soil features in the degradation process, and indicated that pasture degradation does not seem to be directly related to the modification of the chemical features of soils.
