Journal ArticleDOI
Plasma concentrations and intakes of amino acids in male meat-eaters, fish-eaters, vegetarians and vegans: a cross-sectional analysis in the EPIC-Oxford cohort
Julie A. Schmidt,S. Rinaldi,Augustin Scalbert,Pamela Ferrari,David Achaintre,Marc J. Gunter,Paul N. Appleby,Timothy J. Key,Ruth C. Travis +8 more
TL;DR: Men belonging to different habitual diet groups have significantly different plasma concentrations of lysine, methionine, tryptophan, alanine, glycine and tyrosine, however, the differences were less marked than and did not necessarily mirror those seen for amino acid intakes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interlaboratory Reproducibility of a Targeted Metabolomics Platform for Analysis of Human Serum and Plasma
Alexandros P. Siskos,Pooja Jain,Werner Römisch-Margl,Mark H. Bennett,David Achaintre,Yasmin Asad,Luke Marney,Larissa Richardson,Albert Koulman,Julian L. Griffin,Florence I. Raynaud,Augustin Scalbert,Jerzy Adamski,Cornelia Prehn,Hector C. Keun +14 more
TL;DR: This is the first interlaboratory assessment of a widely used, targeted metabolomics assay illustrating the reproducibility of the protocol and how data generated on different instruments could be directly integrated in large-scale epidemiological studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metabolic profiles of male meat eaters, fish eaters, vegetarians, and vegans from the EPIC-Oxford cohort
Julie A. Schmidt,Sabina Rinaldi,Pietro Ferrari,Marion Carayol,David Achaintre,Augustin Scalbert,Amanda J. Cross,Marc J. Gunter,Georgina K. Fensom,Paul N. Appleby,Timothy J. Key,Ruth C. Travis +11 more
TL;DR: Metabolic profiles in plasma could effectively differentiate between men from different habitual diet groups, especially vegan men compared with men who consume animal products.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reliability of Serum Metabolites over a Two-Year Period: A Targeted Metabolomic Approach in Fasting and Non-Fasting Samples from EPIC
Marion Carayol,Idlir Licaj,David Achaintre,Carlotta Sacerdote,Paolo Vineis,Timothy J. Key,N. Charlotte Onland Moret,Augustin Scalbert,Sabina Rinaldi,Pietro Ferrari +9 more
TL;DR: Overall, reproducibility was lower in non-fasting as compared to fasting samples, with a statistically significant difference for 19–36% of acylcarnitines, phosphatidylcholines and sphingomyelins.
Journal ArticleDOI
Validity of multiplex-based assays for cytokine measurements in serum and plasma from "non-diseased" subjects: Comparison with ELISA
TL;DR: Multiplex-based immunoassays can give an accurate estimate of the relative risk in large-scale epidemiological studies but only for cytokines that are present in relatively large concentrations (ng/mL).
